The Saudi-French investment Roundtable was held in Paris in the presence of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman and HE Emmaneul Macron.
Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and global shipping and logistics group CMA CGM have signed definitive agreements to jointly develop and operate Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port, in a deal involving an investment of around $434 million (SAR1.6 billion).
The investment is among the largest foreign direct investments in Saudi Arabia’s maritime sector and will support the development of a new state-of-the-art container terminal, strengthening Jeddah Islamic Port’s position as a major regional logistics and transshipment hub.
The project, being developed in collaboration with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) as part of RSGT’s existing concession, will add up to 2.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of annual container-handling capacity.
The new terminal will feature deep-water berths capable of accommodating the world’s largest container vessels, along with advanced terminal technologies and 10 new ship-to-shore cranes. The infrastructure is expected to improve terminal productivity, operational efficiency and service reliability for customers in Saudi Arabia and across the wider region.
The agreement was signed in Paris in conjunction with the French-Saudi Investment Roundtable Meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic. The agreement underscores the project’s strategic importance and its contribution to the Kingdom’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030 ambitions.
The project is aligned with Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy and the objectives of Vision 2030, which seek to expand the Kingdom’s logistics infrastructure, strengthen its position as a global transportation hub and increase private-sector participation in the development of the maritime sector.
The Terminal 4 development will further expand Jeddah Islamic Port’s container-handling capabilities and enhance its ability to serve growing trade flows between Saudi Arabia, the Middle East and international markets.
The enhanced marine infrastructure will strengthen Jeddah Islamic Port’s ability to efficiently serve larger vessels and major international shipping services, supporting greater trade volumes, stronger global connectivity and more efficient access to international markets for Saudi imports and exports.
The development further reinforces the successful partnership between the Kingdom, represented by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), RSGT and CMA CGM Group, and demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s continued ability to attract world-class international investors to support the growth of its logistics sector and strengthen its position within global trade networks.
