Aggreko has again been commissioned for a role at the Dubai Rugby 7s, capping another active year.

The global leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control solutions will be providing rental power and temperature control to the sporting event to be held in early December.

The Sevens is one of Aggreko's biggest events, said a company spokesman. In 2008, Aggreko provided power for the Dubai Rugby 7s for its first year in its new stand as well as temporary cooling for the venue.

'A combination of chillers, air handlers and AC units will be used, totalling 5,700 kW of cooling and 4.5 MW of power for the cooling package power to Dubai's biggest sporting event over the three days of the tournament,' said the spokesman. 

Working closely with the event organisers, Aggreko will engineer, install and commission a power package to supply the main big screen, television broadcasting, security and lighting for the hospitality tent.

The Sevens, a purpose-built venue, has a total capacity of 50,000 per day. Inaugurated in November 2008, it has been built as a 'flexible' venue, which means it includes a permanent grandstand and the design allows for expanded capacity using temporary facilities. The permanent grandstand capacity is 5,000, while temporary stands and the temporary power supply allow capacity at the stadium to be increased to 50,000 spectators.

Operating from over 130 locations worldwide, Aggreko's Middle East office is based in the Jebel Ali Free Zone. The company says it offers complete turnkey project management including equipment, installation, maintenance and operation by its highly experienced engineers.

The regional office is also involved with a project in Kenya. The project with Kenya Electricity Generating Company is to supply 140 MW of power to KenGen's power plant at Embakasi.  This is in addition to the 150 MW of power already being supplied.

Aggreko also operates a training centre and engine refurbishment facility at Embakasi, which help train and transfer valuable skills and knowledge to Aggreko's locally employed Kenyan work force. The project began in August 2009 and is scheduled to run for a minimum period of 12 months.

Earlier this year Aggreko was involved with a project in Saudi Arabia to provide 100 MW of temporary power to the Saudi Electric Company (SEC) to help overcome seasonal power shortages in the kingdom due to the rise in temperatures during the summers. 

Aggreko says it was able to respond quickly to the client's request to survey the sites and design an appropriate solution.  The power was supplied at a total of six sites in the Qassim region, north of Riyadh, with 80 MW being supplied at 13.8 kV and 20 MW being supplied at 33 kV to suit the requirements of the local substations.
