UK-based Welding Alloys Group, which manufactures a complete range of tubular welding wires, automatic and semi-automatic welding machines and Integra services and equipment, is one of the exhibitors at Gulf Industry Fair.
Welding wire accounts for about 60 per cent of WA business activity and tubular wires are produced at several factories across the globe (approx 11,000 tonnes a year). These factories are in Argentina, China, England, France, Germany, the US, South Africa, Malaysia and South Korea. In addition, its facility in Turkey produces aluminium wires for Speedmet which specialises in metalising and welding applications.
Wires are produced in diameters ranging from 1 to 5 mm in iron, cobalt, nickel and copper-based alloys for openarc, gas-shielded, submerged-arc and plasma-welding processes. In addition, a range of metal-arc and flame spray wires is produced for powder deposition purposes. Tubular wire is a continuously formed strip, filled with different powder metals and inorganic materials to alloy specification, rolled and drawn. All the equipment used to manufacture these products is made in-house and the processes used to manufacture the wire incorporate the latest technology.
In addition to the manufacture of tubular welding wires, Welding Alloys has since 1980 installed more than 1,250 automatic welding machines in well over 40 countries. In the late 1970s, Welding Alloys pioneered the design of automated welding equipment and now offers full installation, commissioning, training and support service for all its equipment, at any location worldwide. Applications for its automated equipment range from deposition reclamation of 50-tonne steel mill rolls through to the automotive industry and railways.
From its position as a tubular wire manufacturer, Welding Alloys is well placed to be able to produce a comprehensive range of metal compositions and then fully assess their fitness for purpose through the activities of the WA Integra division, which is a worldwide service for rebuilding and hardfacing worn industrial components for industries such as steel, coal, power generation, cement, rail and quarrying. Its WA Integra service can be performed on-site at the customer’s premises or at a WA site, using WA materials, equipment and expertise restoring components to as-new or better condition, the company says.
Welding Alloys is a privately owned business and continues to reinvest its profits back into R&D activities and to expand its facilities globally. In the Middle East, Welding Alloys supplies welding consumables, machines, Integra Services and technical support to an ever increasing number of well-established companies that operate in a variety of different industries.
Established in 1966, Welding Alloys currently employs 700 worldwide, and boasts the largest ratio of graduates to operatives in the welding industry globally.
