The portal cutting machine MultiThermeco from Messer offers high performance in the smallest area

The Messer Cutting & Welding Group has three areas of competence, namely cutting systems, oxyfuel technology and gas-supply systems.

The company is active in more than 40 countries either through its own outlets or in cooperation with local partners.
“Our cutting system experts design, develop and manufacture cnc flame cutters for the metal working industry,” says a company spokesman describing the company’s scope of operations.
“The product range extends from portable machines for the fitting shopright to up to 27-metre-wide special machines for the shipbuilding industry. Individually tailored hardware and software solutions are complemented by a service department supplying spare parts, repairs or upgrades.
“In this way, the customer‘s entire needs can be met from a single source.”
The oxyfuel technology product portfolio includes equipment and systems for oxyfuel welding, cutting, soldering and the local application of heat. The company, an exhibitor at Gulf Industry Fair, stresses that its gas supply fittings meet the highest standards for safety, leak resistance and purity. From simple valves for technical gases up to gas cylinder cabinets for semiconductor gases, the entire spectrum of applications is covered.

Cutting wide plates with limited space
With the MultiThermeco, Messer Cutting & Welding GmbH from Groك-Umstadt presents a compact, space-saving and yet enormously productive cutting machine. “Companies all around the globe can now profit from Messer quality for excellent sheet cutting with this system,” the spokesman says.
Plates have to be split or cut into the right shape in many industrial sectors. Companies which have a cutting machine in their own factory always have an advantage in throughput times over their competition and in most cases it is also more economical.
But in the event that the space available is not enough to integrate a portal cutting machine into the production flow, Messer Cutting & Welding says it has the solution.
Raymond Hodgkinson, product manager, cutting system, observes: “Ever more frequently we were getting enquiries from customers asking whether it was possible to get a cutting machine which gave all the advantages of the usual Messer systems – but which would fit into a significantly smaller space. This gave us the impulse to review our well-established MultiTherm concept and produce it in a compact but still powerful format.” , The MultiThermeco, the smallest offspring of the Messer gantry cutting machine family, completely fulfils these requirements.

MultiThermeco: size not everything
The Multithermeco has been conceived for plates up to 3 m wide and concentrates high productivity into a compact footprint only 5 m wide. This was made possible, amongst other features, by the optimised wheel housing length which gives maximum stability with minimum dead length and allows unused torches to be “parked” over the wheel housing, increasing the effective cutting width.
The unit is not just compact but, thanks to a user-friendly CNC based on the Global Control system, it can be set up quickly and easily. With the touch screen and database, all parameters can be entered or uploaded in the shortest possible time, and gas pressures, plasma current and consumables required can be read off the 14-inch TFT monitor.
With the combination of oxyfuel and plasma-cutting processes, the MultiThermeco covers a wide spectrum of materials and cutting tasks. The dual side longitudinal drives allow the appropriate torch to be moved across the plate at speeds of up to 12 m per minute with good acceleration. This reduces the time between cuts and ensures a smooth production.

Great Interest worldwide
“Already, only a few weeks after we first presented the MultiThermeco, we have orders from all three major markets. Customers from Europe, the USA and Asia will soon be able to profit from the many advantages of having their own cutting system – even when they have very limited space,” says Hodgkinson.
