Emirates Techno Casting (ETC) recently marked its 10th anniversary with the opening of community and design centres at the Hamriyah Free Zone.
A company spokesman said the company had been an outstanding performer and a global player supplying steel castings.
“It has been boom time for us and we expect growth to continue in the future,” the spokesman said. “We started in 1997 with a foundry having a monthly capacity of 350 tonnes and it now has grown to 3,000 tonnes. By international standards, we are one of the world’s largest steel valve casting foundries.”
The technological advancements made by the company are also said to be unique.
ETC has the world’s advanced automated no-bake moulding lines. It is also equipped with vacuum oxygen argon decarburising and degassing units; a large CNC pattern-making and covered pattern-storage facility; a modern CNC machine shop and a well-equipped R&D and Design Centre using 3D modeling and simulation software.
ETC has invested substantial sums of money and installed a modern facility where engineers will be working under the supervision of metallurgists and foundry specialists to carry out research on new materials, failure mode analysis and experimental design using Six Sigma techniques.
Established in Ajman in 1997, ETC has grown to be among the world’s biggest suppliers of specialty steel castings to the oil and gas sector, power, chemicals and general engineering and heavy engineering industries.
ETC Foundries is the flagship of synergies that include ETC Gama (radiography services), ETC Cathodic Protection (corrosion engineering), ETC Picktec (stainless steel surface treatment), Al Ahmadi Steel Trading (recycling, trading and processing of all grades of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal), ETC Corporation India and ETC Technologies India (engineering services).
The ETC group annual turnover is over $130 million, with a growth rate of 50 per cent. The company is today well known worldwide for its high quality and productivity, according to Faizal K E, president and CEO of ETC.
Buoyed by world and regional developments, ETC has been adding new products to its range that include valve castings, pump castings, cathodic protection equipment and industrial radiography services. Today the company has emerged as one of the largest and fastest growing steel valve casting producers in the world.
It uses a wide range of materials that includes carbon; stainless steel, duplex steel and creep-resistant high-chrome steels. “We have an extensive manufacturing facility with a fully-automated machine in a modern CNC set-up in which value addition is offered to our customers,” says Faizal. The CNC machine adopts leading-edge technology on a highly efficient continuous production line producing 30,000 tonnes of steel castings annually and catering to the growing demands of valve manufacturers around the world.
“Our products conform to international quality specifications which incorporate special requirements when producing the steel castings. This enables us to satisfy varying needs of our customers,” Faizal adds.
“In appreciation of our quality standards, our products have been approved by major engineering companies and certification bodies across the world. At ETC, we emphasise on research, consistency and quality heritage that help us to create products of world-class standards,” he says. “We check the feasibility of the valve castings by doing solidification simulation to reduce the risk of failures. We have a sophisticated in-house testing facility for all our products.”
ETC says it has maintained ecological balance by eliminating foundry wastes and minimising the use of diminishing natural resources. The company is aiming to be one of the few foundries in the world certified for ISO 14001, the environment management standard, OHSAS 18001 for occupational safety and ISO 9001 for quality control. The company emphasises on research, consistency and quality heritage and has an in-house sophisticated facility for testing chemical, mechanical and non destructive materials.
The company’s plant capabilities by weight include - 1kg to 50 kg - ETC Corporation India; 50 kg to 100 kg - ETC in Ajman, and 100 kg to 14 tonnes at the ETC facility in Hamriyah Free Zone.
The company employs over 1,000 staff.
Other group companies include ETC Corrosion Engineering, a company involved in the design, manufacture and supply of sacrificial aluminium alloy and zinc alloy anodes to the marine, offshore and onshore industries such as rigs, on-shore/off-shore jetties, platforms, decks, cross-country pipelines, sub-sea pipelines and storage tanks of all types. The company’s clients include, Saudi Aramco, Qatar Gas, ONGC and NPCC Abu Dhabi to name a few.
ETC Gamma Radiography facility has been established inside the ETC Foundry with gamma ray source projectors – both iridium192 and cobalt 60 and cobalt 100 sources along with automatic film processors.
ETC Corporation India was established in 2007 to cater to a huge demand for steel castings which are not produced in-house. ETC Corporation India offers engineering and technical support and value-added engineering services and back office operations including ERP system maintenance.
The Al Ahmadi plant specialises in recycling, trading and processing of all grades of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. It provides metal recycling service to any size of industrial plants while also providing a ‘receiving’ yard for retail customers.
