The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) has inaugurated a new Control and Commercial Protection office at its Al Twar Centre branch.
The initiative comes as part of DED’s efforts to provide quality services to customers and ease the pressure on the department’s headquarters in Deira, it said.
The new Control and Commercial Protection office will provide a cluster of services such as receiving complaints pertaining to violations of trademarks and commercial fraud and consumers’ complaints. The office will also identify and suggest ways to solve the problems. Announcing the list of violations by business establishments and the fines imposed, thereof, is also part of the services.
“The Dubai Department of Economic Development is committed to launching new initiatives and services to keep pace with the commercial and economic growth of the emirate,” said Mohamed Hilal Al Muroushedi, director of the Compliance Division at DED.
“The new office at the Al Twar branch will enhance communication between DED and the trademark owners and consumers to provide adequate protection in the framework of related laws and regulations.” It will also spread awareness among traders and consumers by distributing questionnaires and leaflets.
The DED was established in March 1992, with the objective to organise, regulate and boost trade and industry within Dubai. One of its key functions is to encourage local and foreign investments in commercial and industrial projects, and create the appropriate environment for investors.
Its other functions comprise a wide range of regulatory activities including the preparation and maintenance of a commercial register and the supervision of all organisations.
