Manufacturing and fabrication group Zamil Industrial Investment Company (ZIIC) of Saudi Arabia has announced it has been awarded the contract to design, fabricate and supply the steel structure and air conditioning system for the Al Hokair Khurais Plaza shopping mall project in Riyadh.

The contract will be implemented through Zamil Steel Industries (ZSI) and Zamil Air Conditioners (ZAC), two of ZIIC’s three operating businesses, the third being Zamil Glass Industries (ZGI).

ZSI is providing 7,000 tonnes of manufactured steel to meet the construction requirements of the two-storey 77,000sq m buildings comprising a shopping mall and a hypermarket connected by a steel bridge walkway. The complex comprises one of the largest steel buildings in the regional retail industry.

“The specifications of the project include a commitment from ZSI to tight delivery schedules for the shipment and erection of more than 500 tonnes of steel per week with an overall delivery deadline for the project completion to be in three months,” a ZIIC statement said. Lada Trading Company, ZSI’s certified builder in Riyadh, is the contractor responsible for the erection of the steel buildings.

“ZSI’s position as a global leader in the manufacture of pre-engineered steel buildings and the Middle East’s premier supplier of steel structures and transmission and telecommunications towers is endorsed by the fact that we are among a select few steel buildings suppliers in the world capable of meeting this demanding schedule,” said ZSI president Khalid A Al Zamil.

“Close collaboration between our Pre-Engineered Buildings and Structural Steel business units has ensured our ability to deliver the most optimal and cost-effective design, detail and fabrication solution to meet the unique engineering and architectural challenges presented by this prestigious project.”

Pre-cast concrete panels are being incorporated into the design to form textured walls and two large skylight domes will be sited on the rooftop to promote natural sunlight.
The air-conditioning system to control the climate within the structure is provided by ZAC, a prominent international manufacturer of air conditioning systems.
