Geotechnical engineering under focus

As Saudi Arabia’s trillion-dollar project pipeline moves from planning to execution, IGIC 2026 will bring together the geotechnical expertise driving the region’s most complex infrastructure and development projects.

The 3rd Annual International Ground Innovation Conference (IGIC 2026), scheduled to take place on October 14 and 15 at Fairmont Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is preparing for its most ambitious edition yet, cementing its position as the leading platform for geotechnical engineering and ground innovation across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena).

Building on the success of its first two editions, which attracted more than 1,000 delegates from over 35 countries and welcomed more than 100 sponsors, exhibitors and institutional partners, IGIC 2026 arrives at a pivotal moment for the region’s construction sector. With Saudi Arabia advancing a project pipeline valued at more than $1.6 trillion, the focus is increasingly shifting from vision to execution, placing geotechnical engineering at the heart of project delivery.

From karst formations and sabkha soils to fractured rock formations, groundwater management and geohazard mitigation, the region presents some of the world’s most complex ground conditions. As developers navigate these challenges, demand for innovative ground engineering solutions continues to grow.

Against this backdrop, IGIC 2026 will bring together project owners, geotechnical contractors, consultants, technology providers and equipment manufacturers involved in many of the region’s landmark developments, including Red Sea Global, King Salman International Airport, Expo 2030 Riyadh and Qiddiya. Over two days in Riyadh, participants will engage in technical presentations, keynote sessions, case studies, exhibitions and high-level networking opportunities.

A major addition to the 2026 programme is the launch of the conference’s first dedicated Mining Geotechnics Workshop. Reflecting the rapid expansion of Saudi Arabia’s mining sector under Vision 2030, the workshop will focus on critical challenges such as tailings dam design and stability, open-pit slope management, underground excavations, seismicity and geochemical risks.
