Logistics company DHL made strong gains in recent weeks winning several contracts in different regions. The company also launched a less-than-container load service from Vietnam to the United States and Europe.
DHL Global Forwarding said the service through DHL’s in-house carrier Danmar Lines would cut about a week off standard delivery times for the shipments.
Vietnam exported about $27.6 billion in goods in the first half of this year, with more than $10 billion of that in garments and footwear.
Contracts DHL signed included those with Carestream Health, Kodak, London Fashion Week and UK retailer Nisa-Today’s.
DHL is now Carestream Health’s logistics provider for outbound air freight in Asia Pacific and will supply its business partners and manufacturing centres across the region with air freight services. The contract which entails the management of over 5 million kg of volume, more than 90 per cent of Carestream’s global air freight volume, will be handled by DHL Global Forwarding.
Carestream Health Inc is an international leader in healthcare IT solutions, dental and molecular imaging systems, x-ray systems and digital radiography equipment.
The new Carestream Health contract comes on the back of other wins for DHL in Asia Pacific, including a new partnership with NCR Corporation, a global technology company. DHL Supply Chain, the contract logistics division of DHL, will manage a new 15,000 sq ft service parts hub in Hong Kong and provide express and freight transportation throughout the region to support a network of service parts warehouses for NCR.
Kodak business
DHL has been appointed the logistics provider of air and sea freight booking services for Eastman Kodak Company in the Asia Pacific region. This coincides with the renewal of all existing EU and US contracts, and makes DHL the primary carrier for 1,200 Kodak locations worldwide. Key origin ports include multiple locations in China and Hong Kong, with major destinations in Europe, North America, Oceania and South America.
DHL will manage logistics for multiple Kodak divisions in the Asia Pacific region, including the company’s Graphics Communication Group, Consumer Digital Group, and film, photo finishing and entertainment divisions, with freight transportation being handled by DHL Global Forwarding.
London Fashion Week
DHL was named an official logistics partner of London Fashion Week 2009 held in September.
Under the terms of the agreement, the parcel delivery company covered the requirements of those involved in the clothing industry, including materials procurement and distribution.
The company also joined the likes of Mercedes, BlackBerry and Toni & Guy as an official sponsor of the event.
Seven-year contract
DHL Supply Chain has successfully beaten off competition from five rivals to win a seven-year, £500 million contract with the UK’s largest buying group for independent retailers, Nisa-Today’s.
DHL already handles Nisa Today’s frozen and chilled operations at Stoke-on-Trent and Harlow, Essex, but the new contract, due to commence in April 2011, includes the buying group’s ambient operation, which Bibby Distribution currently runs from Nisa’s ambient warehouse at Scunthorpe, South Humberside.
Bibby was among a shortlist of six companies taking part in a 16-month tender process for the new, unified contract.
