Wild: DHL growth in line with UAE economic growth

As the leading express and logistics operator, DHL, part of Deutsche Post World Net, the world’s leading logistics group, continues to go from strength to strength in the UAE and the Middle East.

Thanks to its expansion efforts in the UAE market and the logistics industry’s diversification in segments such as FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), oil and gas and IT, DHL has experienced double-digit growth over the past five years. The trend is set to continue for another five to 10 years based on DHL’s internal research.
“DHL UAE is continuing to grow alongside the booming local economy with 40 per cent growth and the first phase of its $3.5 million Jebel Ali facility expansion completed two years ahead of schedule,” says a company spokesman.
Investment in the Jebel Ali facility is aimed at providing a growing and more complex customer base with a full suite of logistics solutions from a single source, the company says. “Our Jebel Ali hub is the nerve centre of our regional operations and our recent investment ensures our services and facilities are world class, further demonstrating our commitment to the UAE,” comments David Wild, DHL UAE general manager.  Marking the first anniversary of the facility, Wild says the culmination of its initial expansion was necessary to meet an unprecedented 40 per cent increase in shipments, particularly for international shipments.
The expanded facility, situated on a 6,000 sq m site in the free zone, not only bolsters DHL’s traditional express delivery capabilities, but also provides a solid platform to capitalise on the growing demand for tailored express logistics solutions and road freight.
DHL UAE operations mana-ger Geoff Walsh said the expanded facility not only improved local serves it also had a positive ripple effect throughout the company’s Middle East network.
DHL’s future plans will see further expansions to the Jebel Ali facility. Its road freight services have moved to another operations centre, which should allow the current Jebel Ali facility to focus on time-definite express shipments and tailored express logistics solutions for its Express Logistics Centre customers.
The Road Freight Services Centre is housing the hub for the DHL Middle East road network, which has dedicated daily routings to all major Middle East and Levant countries. The latest additions to the network are a direct routing into Iran, as well as joining of the Middle East road network with the European road network through Turkey.
