Demag Cranes and Components (Middle East) FZE recently supplied 24 overhead traveling cranes, 19 wall-mounted jib cranes and one pillar-mounted jib crane to Zamil Steel Industries for the company’s new factory in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.
Zamil Steel Industries began its operations in 1977 in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and ranks today as the sixth largest manufacturer of steel buildings in the world. It has world-class, state-of-the-art steel-building manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Vietnam and India and offices in over 80 countries worldwide.
Zamil’s Dammam-based pre-engineered steel buildings (PEB) factory, with a monthly production capacity of 8,500 tonnes, is the largest single PEB factory in the world. In 1999, Zamil commissioned two more factories for manufacturing pre-engineered buildings in Vietnam and Egypt, expanding the PEB production capacity to 17,500 tonnes per month.
Now Zamil Steel Industries has opened its new factory in Ras Al Khaimah for which total annual production capacity of 30,000 tonnes is projected. The plant will produce all PEBs and components under one roof, which augments its position as one of the leaders in this field.
The safe working load of the supplied cranes ranged from 2 tonnes to 25 tonnes. They operate in all areas of the factory and have a crane span from 18 m to 34 m.
As the cranes are essential in the fabrication process, reliability, duty factor and local service are essential issues for minimising any down time. The Demag DR Pro Cranes proved to be the perfect fit in terms of their compact approach dimensions due to the C-shape hoist design, which improves utilisation of the production area, as well as optimised main girder design and the extended service life of FEM 2m+ (1900 hrs of full load working hours) – all geared to fulfilling the projected annual production capacity with the best possible efficiency.
All the overhead traveling cranes have infinitely variable long- and cross-travel speeds thanks to frequency inverter fed drives. This allows precise positioning and reduced load sway.
In the warehouse are two cranes working, each with two crabs with a safe working load of 7.5 tonnes. The total safe working load of the crane bridge is 15 tonnes. The two crabs per crane can be operated either separately or jointly, which makes it easy to handle long loads.
Where two or more cranes are running on the same crane runway, an anti-collision protection between the cranes through photoelectric sensors is provided. While approaching an adjacent crane, the long travel speed gets cut-off at a set distance to ensure that the cranes will not collide with each other. Long travel limit switches provide the same safety at the end of the runway to avoid collision with the runway end stops.
The two 20-tonne cranes in the long-span shop are additionally equipped with a digital display fitted to the crane bridge indicating the weight of the load being handled due to the electronic load detection in the hoist.
Demag Cranes and Components provides solutions for material flow and logistics requirements and drive applications with the most comprehensive range of products and services for companies of all sizes - from small workshops to the trade sector and major industrial enterprises.
