J Ray McDermott Eastern Hemisphere Ltd, a subsidiary of J Ray McDermott SA, has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract for three wellhead topsides, bound for Qatar’s North field and Qatargas 3 and 4 offshore projects.
“It’s an honour for us to be selected by the Qatargas 3 and 4 ventures for this project, which follows the award of the jacket fabrication work earlier this year,” said Hafez Aghili, senior vice president and general manager, Middle East and India. “There is significant potential for oil and gas field development in Qatar and every project award strengthens our experience and market position in the region.”
J. Ray will design, purchase materials, construct, transport, install, hook-up, and mechanically complete three wellhead decks, WHP7, WHP8 and WHP9, each weighing approximately 2,100 tonnes. Engineering and procurement has just commenced and construction will commence by April 2007 at J Ray’s Jebel Ali fabrication facility. All three wellhead decks will be completed by the last quarter of 2008.
In another development, J Ray McDermott was awarded two new contracts to provide installation services. Both awards are part of field development activities by India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC).
The first contract, awarded by Samsung Heavy Industries Co Ltd (SHI), is for the installation of an eight-leg 3,516 tonne jacket, with 16 skirt piles, four 72-inch-diameter main piles, pipeline spools, two bridges, six decks and modules weighing around 1,100 tonnes each. This project is part of ONGC’s Vasai East Development expansion of the Bassein East oil field situated east of the existing South Bassein gas field, 80 km northwest of Mumbai. Projects of this type are typically valued at over $35 million. Installation will be carried out in the last quarter of 2007 by one of J Ray’s derrick barges.
The second contract, awarded by Larsen & Toubro Limited, involves installation of four wellhead platforms, three connecting bridges, and two subsea pipelines in the Mumbai High and Bassein fields for ONGC’s MH-B and S-4 Wellhead Platform project. Contracts of this type are typically valued at over $45 million.
“J Ray has performed several major projects for ONGC in the Mumbai High field and these awards are a testament to our customers’ confidence in our capabilities,” said Ed Gedeon, general manager Middle East and India projects. “From our past experience and lessons learned from working in these fields, our marine organisation is well prepared for these projects in Indian waters.”
The four wellhead platforms will be installed in an average water depth of 60 m.
