Kuwait-based Agility has won a multi-million-dollar logistics contract from RasGas, a premier liquefied natural gas (LNG) enterprise based in Qatar.

The contract follows on the heels of the announcement from Agility Defence & Government Services (DGS) that the Defence Logistics Agency (DLA) had renewed its contract for warehouse and distribution services at the Defence Distribution Centre, Kuwait/Southwest Asia (DDKS).

RasGas, owned by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil RasGas, operates production facilities to treat, liquefy and export LNG to countries across Asia, Europe and the US.
The key contract involves global freight forwarding, transportation and customs clearance for a period of four years, both locally and around the world, said a top Agility official.
Elias Monem, Agility CEO Mena, said: “Qatar is crucially important to the growth of Agility in the region and this deal represents an important milestone in our company’s six-year history locally.

“During this time we have invested substantial sums in Qatar to ensure that our global reach and local capabilities match to deliver unparalleled standards of service for important clients such as RasGas.”

Apart from operating a worldwide network of 550 offices in 120 territories, Agility brings a wealth of local resources to RasGas in Qatar, such as more than 1 million sq m of warehousing and storage, over 1,000 staff and a fleet of 300 vehicles, he noted.
“Agility provides unique supply chain solutions and logistics services that support upstream (O&G exploration phase and crude oil), midstream (gas-related) and downstream (refined/finished products).  Abiding to HSE (health, safety, and environment) accreditations, we are ISO 14001 and 9001 plus Ohsas 18001 certified,’ he added.

Based in Ras Laffan, Qatar, RasGas currently produces LNG amounting to over 20 million tonnes per year (tpy) with five trains in operation.

It is expected that this production will be approximately 37 million tpy by the end of the decade, with the completion of seven operational trains.

Defence contract
Under the one-year follow-on award from DLA, Agility DGS, a global provider of supply chain solutions, will use its extensive facilities in Kuwait to provide DLA with a complete warehouse management system to support operations in the Middle East and Southwest Asia.

DLA originally awarded Agility DGS a one-year DDKS contract in 2005. Each year since, Agility DGS has won the right to handle the work. The potential value of the DDKS awards is $214 million over five years.

“We are gratified to have earned the confidence of DLA based on our record of outstanding performance since 2005,” said Dan Mongeon, president and chief of Agility DGS.

The DDKS contract extends Agility’s record of successful performance for the DLA, which includes recent awards of long-term contracts for heavy equipment and transport services in Iraq and Kuwait, along with supply and distribution of food and other products for the US military in Iraq.

Agility DGS has also recently won contracts to manage repair parts supplies at the Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania and bulk-fuel supplies for the US military on  US Air Force installations in Guam, Japan, South Korea, Portugal, Germany and Turkey.
