The Dubai Customs Department held a training programme for students during July to acquaint them about the nature of customs work including its dealings with commercial companies and shipping and clearing agents.
Younes Ibrahim Younes, the training and development director at Dubai Customs, said the department had over the years been able to develop its training programmes and put into practice its belief in the importance of investing in national human resources “for real development and modernisation.”
“Based on that objective, the latest training seminar was designed to prepare students for their future practical life, develop their skills and capabilities and familiarise them with the aspects of our work and other associated work.”
The students were distributed among various posts, sections and administrations of Dubai Customs to familiarise them with the scope of responsibilities of each of those units.
Dubai Customs’ training department has prepared a guidebook for customs supervisors and trainee students which describes the course and the conditions for joining while also outlining the rights and obligations of the trainees.
One of the important aims of the summer training was to help the students in applying scientific and academic knowledge to practical life, so as to prepare them for serving society, shouldering responsibilities, observing punctuality and making use of their free time in a way that is socially, culturally and professionally beneficial, Younes said.
It was also an opportunity for trainees to familiarise themselves with the role Dubai Customs played in society in general and in the national economy in particular, he added.
Younes explained there were general criteria for assessing the performance of the trainees this year, such as their cooperation with their superiors and colleagues, the respect of the functional system, and punctuality with regard to working hours. He added that the department was keen to encourage creative initiatives such as suggestions and projects by the trainees through the different activities included in the summer training programme.
