Metito, the international water desalination and wastewater treatment specialist, has announced it will design and construct a pilot plant in Doha, Qatar.

The plant, to be built 35 km west of Doha, cost QR8 million ($2.1 million) to construct and will “further evaluate the treatment of treated sewage effluent (TSE),” a Metito statement said.
“The pilot plant which is part of a bigger project, will test the feasibility of treating TSE using the reverse osmosis technique, a method by which water is pressurised against a membrane surface to get rid of unwanted residue,” the statement said.
“Four different pre-treatment schemes will be tested of which three will be based on membrane technologies namely micro filtration (MF), ultra filtration (UF) and nano filtration. The fourth pre-treatment scheme will be the usual conventional pre-treatment (CPT) involving multi-media filtration.”
Commenting on the contract, Walid Orabi, country manager of Metito, Qatar, said, “This is yet another landmark in our esteemed list of projects. Metito is going to design, install, operate as well as maintain the entire pilot plant. The major benefit of this plant is the implementation of membrane-based technology which will help provide clean water for irrigation purposes coupled with trouble-free operation.”
In order to ensure accuracy of results, Metito has also deployed a wide array of instruments and data transmitters that will monitor the plant operation to determine the optimum pre-treatment scheme that can produce water to the desired quality.
Jaber Al Mohanadi, drainage affairs director of Public Works Authority, Doha, said, “Over the last couple of years the Qatari economy has considerably progressed and clean water constitutes a vital pre-requisite for the development of the country.  We are glad to have partnered with Metito, the specialist in wastewater treatment to meet our project requirements and are confident that Metito’s decades of experience in wastewater treatment will provide trouble-free and cost-efficient solutions.”
Metito, founded in 1958, is cited as a shining example of a Middle Eastern company that has grown to be a world leader in its field.  Metito operates locally in 14 countries of the Arab and Islamic World, and supplies its plants internationally to locations as far apart as Argentina and Australia from its base in the UAE.
