Swedish packaging firm Tetra Pak has aid it will no longer use the ink component isopropylthioxanthone (ITX) in its cartons in Europe after recalls of milk products containing traces of the ink.
Tetra Pak took out full-page advertisements in Italian newspapers to announce the move, adding that the European Food Safety Agency had ruled that the substance was harmless, said a Reuters report.
An Italian consumers’ association said it had found numerous food products sold in Tetra Pak cartons that were contaminated with traces of ink, not just baby milk products that have been the target of a high-profile recall.
