The next Midest exhibition will have a new look to meet the demands of the participants and visitors.

The event, to be held from November 7 to 10, 2000 in the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre (Halls 5 and 7), will have "Towards 21st Century Subcontracting" as it theme.

The subcontracting business is moving towards a partnership model and two main criteria for the selection of future subcontractors are "the capacity to be a genuine partner" and their "ability to instigate". This is the finding of a survey of visitors to the last Midest exhibition.

More than seven out of 10 visitors declared that the use of subcontractors was now routine practice for their company. Besides the search for new suppliers, another reason for visiting was the need to monitor technology, says Frederic Heux, managing director of the [QQ]Construction, Industry and Security Divisions of Miller Freeman, the organiser.

"It is an event that one visits to do business at. Increasingly, the visitors are looking for new partnerships, to build strategic alliances, to keep abreast of newer technological developments," he says.

"This is why we have decided to launch highly innovative and original services that will provide our visitors and exhibitors with new tools for commercial and technological exploration," he continues.

To mark its 30th anniversary this year, Midest will be offering some additional services with a common focus - 21st century subcontracting.

They include:

  • Business meetings: This new system will enable exhibitors and visitors to make contact following a matching of supply to demand for products and services. The requirements that visitors have specified in advance will be examined by a technical committee and sent to exhibitors whose fields of expertise match the required know-how.

omers and subcontractors can schedule their meetings either on the individual stands or in offices made available to them on the business meetings stand.

  • The partnership exchange: This is a service for those searching for partnerships that is designed to complement the business meetings. It operates on the Midest web site: www.midest.com and is based on classified advertisements arranged in the following sections: commercial partnership, technological partnership and financial partnership. Advertisements are placed by completing a form displayed in the partnership exchange section of the Midest web site. The requirement will be placed on line with an identification number and all that the visitor will have to do to access it is to click on it.

  • Technology centres: In several sectors of the show (forging, machining and special structures, coatings and surface treatments, sheet metals, fixings) there will be sections to help visitors and exhibitors discover the latest technological developments.

  • Press/Internet area: As part of the media programme, a large number of French and international magazines will be available to consult.
