Amana Contracting and Steel Buildings Company, a leader in the industrial construction sector, has been involved with a number of projects for Agility (formerly known as Public Warehousing Company – PWC Logistics).
It recently completed three air conditioned warehouses in Mina Abdullah, Kuwait. Describing the project, Mutasem Kayyali, general manager of Amana Kuwait, says the three warehouses cover an area of 52,000 sq m. They were constructed on a fast-track basis in 180 days. Each has a wide span measuring 75 m with large bay spacing and each facility includes five offices spread out on three floors totalling 11,000 sq m in size.
The facilities will be used as a major logistics centre for handling and shipping goods for the Kuwaiti and US governments.
Another major project that Amana completed for Agility last year was the retail distribution centre at Dubai Investment Park.
Describing the project, Jihad Bsaibes, general manager, Amana, Dubai, says the facility contains a number of key design features including an 18,750 sq m very narrow aisle (VNA) storage area in addition to 4800 sq m of cold stores with insulated floors. The building is pre-engineered with a large clear space and a height of 18 m. As a high-demand distribution centre, the facility is built with 35 loading docks to accommodate rapid product movement.
The centre is enclosed by a decorated boundary wall with extensive landscaping. The project also includes an air conditioning system and a fire-fighting system as well as closed circuit surveillance.
Earlier Amana had constructed a cold store for Agility in Doha in mid 2004. The warehouse was the first cold stores facility with a large capacity in Qatar. The project comprises over10,000 sq m of cold stores, freezer rooms, offices and accommodation blocks.
The project is equipped with docklevers, dock shelters and super flat slabs required for the VNA shelving and forklift system.
Amana was awarded this project on a design-build basis in order to achieve the challenging combination of a tight completion schedule, high-quality requirements and on budget delivery, according to Ghassan Assaf, general manager, Amana, Doha.
