With its expertise from managing thousands of fairs and events around the globe, Agility Fairs & Events is a world leader in specialised logistics solutions for fairs, events, sports and entertainment.
Supported by the strong Agility network, this specialised unit hopes to double its current size in the next five years.
Sim Kian Kiat, president of Agility Fairs & Events, highlights their local expertise in the geographies they operate, which is crucial to the success of all their customers’ exhibitions or events.
Kiat explains: “We have an award-winning service that is focused firmly on the specific logistics needs of our customers. Our senior executives and staff are recognised professionals in this field and we have become essential service providers that connect organisers and exhibitors with a special experiential link to their target audiences. This has provided fairs and events participants a competitive edge over other forms of advertising and promotion methodologies.”
Kiat, a Singaporean, co-founded Trans-Link in 1982, after a four-year stint in a project transport and freight forwarding company, and was instrumental in creating a world-class project transport and freight forwarding company. Trans-Link was eventually acquired by former Agility company PWC Logistics and now is a specialised business of the global enterprise.
Agility Fairs & Events’ turnover in 2006 was over $100 million and despite the cyclical nature of the sectors, it expects to grow some 20 per cent in 2007, says Kiat.
The integration of all the legacy companies into the Agility Fairs & Events group, which occurred in 2006, has proved to be a positive step. “This has unified the companies into a cohesive group of professionals from different geographies, cultures, experiences and specialties. Agility Fairs & Events is now a single unit working together through common management processes and systems and we are striving to present ourselves as ‘one face to the customer’ in any part of the world where the event freight needs to go,” observes Kiat.
In initiatives to grow its business, the unit has made a thrust into the Middle East, where it says it is now the leader in exhibition freight forwarding in Dubai. Another initiative it launched is events logistics related to performing and visual arts, product launches and sports logistics. The third initiative it listed is venue logistics management.
These initiatives, coupled with the expertise it has accumulated, have made the unit optimistic about the future.
“Agiltiy Fairs & Events is currently a leader in many countries where we operate and is targeting to grow to become a world leader in fairs and events logistics. We aim to double our current size to achieve this objective within the next five years,” says Kiat.
In the 28 years he has been in the industry, Kiat has been involved in managing many projects, including the shipping and handling of stand materials, exhibits and equipment for WorldExpo in Canada and Australia, marshalling and shipping of hotel equipment and supplies for hotels like Holiday Inn in Johore Bahru, Marco Polo Hotel in Taiwan and Raffles City Hotel in Singapore, amongst others.
