Hyojong Industrial, Qatar’s leading private steel pipe manufacturer, has signed a land and development deal worth QR65 million ($17.8 million) with Energy City Qatar.

Hyojong is an alliance between the Qatar Promotion Board represented by Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdoulaziz Al-Thani and the original Korean owner, Ma.
Signing the agreement were Energy City Qatar’s CEO Hesham Al Emadi and the president of Hyojong Industrial, Yousef Ahmed Al Kuwari.
“The company is at this point driven by Qatari ingenuity and Korean technology and is also Qatar’s first steel pipe exporter,” a statement accompanying the signing announcement said.
The statement also said Hyojong had internationally acquired many certifications, which reflected the quality of its products and services. The company has provided facilities to Ras Laffan Industrial City, especially for Qatar Petroleum’s Ras Laffan Cooling Water Project Phase I RLCCWP.
Hyojong is one of Qatar’s biggest manufacturing companies in the private sector with an investment of over QR200 million. Al Kuwari said “this deal is a step towards realising our ambitious plans and immense growth not only in the local market but also abroad. Hyojong’s quality manufacturing with Energy City Qatar’s vision to establish a sustainable setup for the oil and gas industry demonstrates our commitment to excellence and to quality products, and this deal will further boost our relationship.”
Added the official: “Energy City Qatar is an exceptional project in which we as a company take great pride in investing. Their values, objectives and dealings are in conjunction with ours in providing the best to the new home of the oil and gas industry for the Middle East.”
Hyojong was established in 1981 for the production of spiral pipes, longitudinal pipes, fittings, coating and associated accessories in South Korea where it acquired many international certifications such as KS, ISO, API and JIS to name a few.
The company manufactures carbon steel pipes, which are use for the portable water pipeline, waste pipeline and oil and gas pipeline, among other things. It also manufactures related products such as fittings and undertakes pipe coating and steel fabrication.
In 2004 after seeing the success of Hyojong in Qatar, Qatar Promotion Board bought into the company. Sheikh Hamad has a stake of 75 per cent with Ma holding the remainder shares.
Energy City Qatar, which will cover an area of approximately 1.2 million sq m, is a realised futuristic vision, in line with the Qatari government’s drive to create a comprehensive home for the Gulf’s energy industry and those who work in it.
Commenting on the deal, Al Emadi said “This is a significant deal for Energy City Qatar, as it proves that we will be a force to be reckoned with in the near future, and more alliances like these will further advance our ambitious plans that are in the pipeline.”
Al Emadi added: “The experience of Hyojong in providing quality tailored products to the energy business-related projects and its 20 years of expertise provides an extra edge to our partners in Energy City. We eagerly look forward to working with world-class manufacturers in achieving a landmark success in this outstanding project”.
At a cost of $2.6 billion, Energy City Qatar is a master planned development. It will be home to industry leaders in oil and gas production, IOCs, NOCs, support services, infrastructure and downstream activities, shipping and trading, market and resource data, intellectual property and energy trading.
Energy City Qatar is located in the major new city development, Lusail, which, in addition to business and entertainment districts, will be home to up to 200,000 residents.
