Abu Dhabi Pipes and Profiles Industries Complex (Adpico) has installed new equipment that will enable it to produce ERW round black pipes of up to 8-inch diameter.
That capability was made possible by importing a slitting machine capable of handling coils above 20 tonnes.
The company, which commenced production last November, could earlier produce only up to 6-inch-diameter pipes at its steel facility in the UAE capital. The plant also produces square and rectangular hollow sections.
Feisal Hammude, director of international sales and marketing, said the company’s production had been increasing substantially thanks to some large key accounts it has obtained.
Current output is 20,000 tonnes per month with seven of 9 mills operating and the remainder two in the process of starting up. Twenty per cent of the turnover feeds the local market while the rest caters to the GCC region, North America and Europe..
The company, part of the Safa Group, is also in the process of setting up its galvanising lines, which Hammude said was a “huge and complex operation.”
“Once this is complete we will have an added-value product combined with a wider range of sizes as we also have an array of roll set sizes on order to complement our existing range of products.”
The company is also acquiring key certifications. “As we are currently completing our ISO certification, we will follow up with our API thus making us the only API producer in the region catering to the oil and gas sector.”
The official said once these certifications came the company would concentrate on large diameter pipes up to 24 inches and more.
The company has built a distribution network with all the major steel traders in the region as well as becoming an approved vendor for almost all the major construction companies in the region.
“ Our focus is to form long-term cohesive alliances with all our partners,” said Hammude.
The Adpico factory encompasses an area of 770,000 sq m and is considered the largest of its kind in the Middle East region with stringent standards in environment and employee safety. “Our quality control is paramount as we follow the tightest standards and specification according to European and US requirements,” said Hammude.
“Equipment has to be custom made, ordered and shipped from abroad and this takes time as there are only a few producers in the world. Our lines are ordered from Italy considered one of the most technologically advanced producers in the world. We use top-end Microsoft, Cisco and IBM products for our hardware and software needs.
“Our concern is quality from A-Z, and to satisfy all our customers demands no matter what they are. Many of the large-scale projects require certified and tested premium products, which we can deliver. Shipments are usually the same day while production can mean a following-day delivery.
“As the steel market is somewhat saturated in the UAE with everyone fighting for the same customers, we have an advantage of standing at the top when it comes to quality and large capacity orders, while on the price issue we are capable of competing head to head with any producer.”
