Ducab’s Abu Dhabi factory

Ducab, a leading manufacturer of high-quality power cables in the Middle East, has announced major expansion plans for its recently opened production facility in Abu Dhabi.

The company is investing Dh30 million ($8.16 million) in the expansion project that will result in increasing Ducab’s existing production capacity by 20 per cent.
The expansion project, which is already underway, is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2006 and will enable the company to meet the growing demand for high-quality cables in the UAE.
“The increase in construction activities across the UAE has resulted in a significant surge in demand for power cables and building wire in the country,” said Colin Paskins, managing director, Ducab.
“The timely expansion of our Abu Dhabi plant will tremendously enhance our production capacity and meet the increased market demand. Our market share is high and will increase with this expansion. The Abu Dhabi factory will operate to its full capacity by the end of this year and we have already placed orders for new machinery and equipment for the plant. With our Jebel Ali factory too, we will be able to meet most of the UAE’s demand for cables and still have some capacity for export”
The existing capacity of the Abu Dhabi factory is 25,000 copper tonnes and with the new expansion, Ducab can further add to its already healthy order book of Dh500 million. The Abu Dhabi plant is Ducab’s biggest investment since its inception and was built as part of Ducab’s corporate strategy of tripling its business to Dh2 billion by 2010.
The 180,000 sq m facility, located in the Abu Dhabi Industrial Area, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and latest machinery, acquired from renowned suppliers around the world. The factory is strategically located to provide a high-quality and efficient service to Ducab’s customers in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
“Quality has been the hallmark for Ducab over the years. Our superior range of power cables is being used by leading regional and multinational companies across the Middle East and beyond. We have further plans to develop the business into other product lines, and penetrate new markets, and are well on track to meet our long-term goals,” said Paskins.
Established in 1979, Ducab is the first purpose-built cable manufacturing company in the UAE and is equally owned by the Government of Dubai and Government of Abu Dhabi. Its product range covers low voltage power cables, control and auxiliary cables, wiring and lead-sheathed cables, Ducab Powerplus medium voltage cables (up to 33 kV) and Ducab Smokemaster, low-smoke and fume-zero halogen cables.
