One of the company’s new showrooms

Dubai-based Ajmal Perfumes recently introduced its new fragrance for women called Afaaq, Arabic for horizon.

The new product is a blend of fruity and spicy top notes enriched with a heart note of rose, rasberry and cardamom whilst musky and woody notes contribute to its base, the company said.
“The high demand for oriental concentrates inspired us to create Afaaq, which has been crafted for women radiating exuberance,” said Ajmal’s chief perfumer Nazir Ajmal.  The new fragrance is available in a 13 ml gold-finished bottle.
Ajmal has 90 exclusive retail outlets, including six in Bahrain, and hundreds of dealerships across the Middle East.  The latest outlets to join the network were one each in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. By the end of this year there will be 100 outlets, the company said. With the expansion there will be 29 in the UAE and 19 in Saudi Arabia.
Commenting on the opening of the new showrooms, Nazir Ajmal, marketing director, Ajmal Perfumes said: “The surge in demand for our products has prompted us to expand our retail presence in key locations in the GCC, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia, two of our fastest growing markets…By extending our retail network to include strategic locations in the GCC we hope to make our unique offering even more accessible for our customers.”
The new outlet in Saudi Arabia is located at Haddab Mall in Jeddah and has an area of 2,200 sq ft. It is the company’s fourth in the city and showcases its complete range of western and oriental fragrances in addition to essential oils and premium oudh. In the UAE, the newly opened shop is the 10th in Dubai and allows consumers to enjoy easy accessibility to Ajmal’s fragrant products while shopping in the souk.
The company was founded in Mumbai, India, in 1951 by Ajmal Ali who came to the city from Assam in the country’s northeast. Within a little over a decade he emerged as the premier supplier of fragrances to the Middle East. In 1976, Ajmal moved to Dubai and opened his first Gulf outlet there. In 1987 the company set up a factory and R&D facility in the emirate and in 2004 it opened a new $8.5-million state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Dubai’s industrial area to keep up with the region’s increasing demand for fragrances. In addition to manufacturing units, the new 147,000 sq ft complex houses a fully automated packaging division and an extensive R&D wing.
The company’s 50th outlet was opened at Al Faisaliya Tower in Saudi Arabia in 2000. Also that year it became the first perfume manufacturer in the Middle East to sell online.
The company has a separate division to manufacture essential oils and perfumery compounds used predominantly in the perfumery and cosmetics industry. The raw materials are exported to Europe, Southeast Asia and the Far East and Australia. The essential oils manufactured by the division include oils from pure Indian sandalwood, frankincense, cardamom, ginger, clove and nutmeg.
