October: Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco), a unit of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), has awarded US engineering firm Fluor a $999 million contract to build the first stage of the Habshan gas complex expansion.

September: The Abu Dhabi Polymers Company's (Borouge) plans to triple production is expected to meet rising demand in Asia and the Middle East and possibly Europe.
May: Abu Dhabi aims to boost output capacity at its biggest Murban oilfield by 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.5 million bpd between December and March.
'There are new capacities coming gradually from June onward,' Yousef Omair bin Yousef, chief executive of Adnoc, said.
April: Adnoc is on course to lift the UAE's crude oil production capacity to three million barrels per day (mbpd) by 2006, said a report.
Major investments pumped into several onshore and offshore projects over the past five years are now set to yield dividends.

2004

January: Gasco sends out international tenders for a third phase of natural gas development to expand the processing capacity at the Habshan plant.

2003
December: Borouge, Borealis' joint venture with Adnoc, is in the process of expanding its existing Borstar polyethylene capacity and studying further expansion to form a world scale petrochemical complex at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi.
Tecnimont SpA of Italy signs an agreementwith Abu Dhabi Polymers Co, a joint venture between Adnoc and Borealis, the main producer of polyethylene in Europe, to increase the capacity of polyethylene units from 260,000 tonnes per year to 320,000 tonnes.
September: The UAE awards Italy's Snamprogetti a $316 million engineering, procurement and construction contract to upgrade the Bu Hasa onshore oilfield, operated by Adco.
Adnoc plans to shut down its 120,000 bpd Ruwais refinery for scheduled turnaround sometime in the second half of September.
August: The UAE announces plans to increase sustainable oil production capacity to 3.58 million bpd by 2006 from the current 2.63 million bpd.
'A crucial element in the UAE's plan ... is the development of Upper Zakum from its present level of 550,000 bpd to 1.2 million bpd,' the Middle East Economic Survey reports.
May: Total Abu Al Bukhoosh (ABK), a unit of French oil giant Total, completes 52-km pipeline from its offshore Abu Al Bukhoosh oilfield in Abu Dhabi to Das Island, allowing the company to export crude oil by pipeline. Operating company Adma-Opco says oil coming from the new 10-inch pipeline will be mixed with that of Umm Shaif to be stored in the Das Island Industrial area ready for export.

2002
December: Abu Dhabi plans to introduce CNG for vehicles. Adnoc Distribution says a pilot project will begin late next year and cost $1.5 million.
The Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co (Adma-Opco) completes one of the largest 3D ocean bottom cable seismic surveys at the Zakum field.
November: Adco shareholdres approve plans to develop a production of 1.4 million bpd.
Adnoc Distribution is to enhance production up to 90,000 metric tonnes per annum in the next two to three years.
UAE filling stations decide to sell only unleaded gasoline from January 1, 2003 and Takreer sets up systems to supply the clean fuel.

November: Adnoc started its first Khuff gas well. The Khuff exploration programme resulted in the discovery of gas and condensate in several fields.
October: Adnoc's first offshore oil discovery in Bu Dana structure, followed by the discovery of IB and IC the following year.
August: Umm Al Nar Refining expansion to 60,000 barrel-per-day commissioned.
