
Bahrain’s Innovest has announced it is promoting the setting up of an insulin manufacturing plant in the kingdom with German collaboration.
Issues related to the project were discussed at a meeting chaired recently in Manama by Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro to review initiatives flowing from the 2008 visit to Germany of King Hamad.
Innovest chief executive officer Dr Khalid Abdulla said during the meeting that the facility would be set up at the Bahrain International Investment Park, cost $91 million and employ 100 people in technical and professional jobs.
Environment projects company Universe Environment director Ali Hassan laid out plans for a project to recycle waste, including glass, empty cans and electronics and electrical equipment.
Coordination in progress
He said the company was co-ordinating with authorities to identify a 5,000 sq m plot of land that would be used to set up the plant.
The latest developments on the up and running Bahraini-German Orthopaedic Hospital were also discussed as was the agreement between the Bahrain Airport Company and German company Hochtief to manage facilities at the airport.
Economic Development Board services and industry director Vivian Jamal spoke about other possible areas of co-operation between Hochtief and other companies in Bahrain’s logistics sector.
Gulf Marcom Group president Khamis Al Muqla provided updates on the development work being carried out with telecommunication and television broadcast company APS-Astra, which is set to provide services in Bahrain and the region.
Dr Fakhro said there was a continuous follow-up process between the ministry and businessmen to enhance relations between Bahrain and Germany and to ensure positive follow-up of the King’s visit.
