Amana Contracting & Steel Buildings, a leader in the industrial construction sector, has received a contract from Vos Logistics to design and build a logistics terminal in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar.

The contract, valued at more than $20 million, was one of several secured by Dubai-based Amana in Qatar during 2006 . With over 10 years of presence in Doha, Amana is a leading provider of design-build construction solutions to the industrial sector.
Vos Logistics, a leading European logistics service provider to the petrochemical industry, was awarded the contract by Qatofin to build and operate a high-tech logistics platform in May 2006. The platform, currently one of the largest of its kind in the Middle East, will be located adjacent to the Arabian Gulf and is directly connected to the production facilities of Qatofin. The terminal, to be designed and constructed by Amana, facilitates storage and handling of Qatofin’s linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) granules.
When completed the terminal complex will comprise four buildings featuring a 56,000 sq m covered warehouse, 14,500 cu m of silo storage, two fully automatic and mobile packaging lines, 20 loading docks and container storage and transshipment with a capacity of 1,000 teu.
The complex sits on an area of approximately 100,000 sq m and will be constructed on a design-build basis in 20 months, calculated from January 2007 and using over 1,000 tonnes of steel. The logistics platform is planned to be operational at the end of 2008.
Marc Van Alphen, managing director, silo logistics and projects at Vos Logistics, said Vos was looking to expand in the Middle East region. “We partnered with Amana as they could not only deliver the quality and service on this particular project, they were also able to provide turnkey solutions elsewhere around the region in line with our expansion plans for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman.”
Amana CEO Chebel Bsaibes remarked:  “More and more companies in the oil and gas as well as the logistics sectors in Qatar and across the region are recognising Amana’s reputation for delivering high-quality, turnkey solutions on time and within budget.”
Bsaibes also said Amana had a very successful year, sealing more than 35 projects across the region.
“We are very happy with the relationship with Vos Logistics and we look forward to building on it across the region,” he added.
Using an extensive European network and focusing on customer-specific solutions, Vos Logistics has about 5,000 employees at 45 offices within Europe.  Its head office is located in Oss, the Netherlands.
