Elfab has announced it has developed a high-specification detection option for its Posi-Guard and Vac-Guard range of bursting discs. The system instantly detects pressure fluctuations within ultra-low pressure systems such as atmospheric storage tanks. It sends a signal to process control systems when a disc ruptures, thanks to its built-in sensing element.
Used throughout the process industries, bursting discs are high-precision pressure -relief devices designed to burst at a specific pressure, preventing potentially dangerous pressure fluctuations. The new system meets the current need for the instantaneous detection of over/under-pressure occurrences within ultra-low pressure systems - an essential feature of safe operating systems and one that contributes to efficient process control.
Integral to the bursting disc, the sensing element is ex-certified to EEx ia IIC T6, allowing the disc to be used in all types of potentially explosive atmospheres. Fitted with a permanent, hard-wired cable that connects directly to process-control systems, the new system does not require 'fit-for-work' re-certification after each operation.
This is particularly important when used in potentially explosive areas, as it significantly reduces plant downtime. For ease of installation, the cable is connected to the installed disc with a high-specification IP67 plug and socket connector, eliminating time spent on difficult installation procedures.
