The regional construction boom has propelled the UAE’s largest steel pipe manufacturer into becoming the Gulf’s leading scaffold pipe producer.

Abu Dhabi Metal Pipes and Profiles Industries Complex (Adpico), which has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per year (tpy), is part of the Safa Group, a diversified steel conglomerate comprising four production units: Adpico, Abu Dhabi; Saveh Rolling and Safa Rolling, Saveh, Iran; and Alpha Steel, Wales, UK.
Safa intends to expand its production line to include strips, plates and stainless and other steel finished products. It is poised to become a world leader in the transformation of steel with an overall capacity of above 5 million tpy by next year with new projects already on the drawing table or in development.
 Adpico has already begun embarking on a second phase of investment that will introduce galvanising capability, as well as the production of line pipes according to API standards. The company has already received its ISO 9001:2000, API SPEC Q1, and ISO TS29001:2003 certifications, as well as the API 5L certification from the American Petroleum Institute (API). It expects to be the largest producer of API-approved pipes for the oil and gas industry. With 10 lines operational and two others soon to be commissioned, Adpico has captured much of the Gulf market and has now begun its aggressive push into Europe and North America. Adpico will soon produce, stock and supply the requirements of local, regional and international oil and gas companies.
“We are eagerly waiting to have our large-diameter API line operational as this will catapult us to a select level of producers within the oil and gas industry,” says international sales and marketing director Feisal Hammude.
“In the meantime, we are forging and maintaining our relationships with those companies till this operational phase has been completed.”
Hammude says the company has just recently signed an order with SMS Meer GmbH, Monchengladbach/Germany, for a 24-inch HFI pipe welding line.
“Our long association with our principals has made us a preferred choice for architects, consultants, construction companies and government and private organisations and today is synonymous for quality and reliability in the building material sectors of the UAE,” he noted. The pipe sizes range from a quarter inch to 8 inches and soon that will be expanded to 24 inches.
