Nagar: adopting a multi-dimensional approach
Cellucom laid the foundation of its business at the Dubai Airport Free Zone (Dafz) in April 2000 and has been expanding itself across all gamuts of business at a pace quicker than average, it says
With its Dafz base, Cellucom started its operations as re-exporters. “The long-term focus of management and the growth of the national economy gave an impetus to the company’s ambitious growth plans,” a Cellucom spokesman says.
“Starting from virtually no retail presence Cellucom today is one of the fastest growing retail and distribution mobility chain,” he said. At the end of the Q1 2006, Cellucom had 36 showrooms.
Cellucom chairman and managing director Arun Nagar observes that Dafza (the Dafz Authority) offers a lot of direct and indirect benefits to its clients, such as its strategic location in close proximity to the Dubai International Airport and excellent air cargo networking as well as efficient handling through the Free Zone Logistics Centre. He also mentioned Dafza’s attention to security and safety and the friendly atmosphere that pervaded the zone as well as the professionalism and ‘ready to help’ atttude of the Dafza staff. “From our headquarters and the warehouse located at Dafza we have not only been able to give a tremendous push to our exports into emerging markets of Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa but also were able to support our retail and distribution expansion very smoothly,” he said.
“Dafza and all its clients are like one big family, with a strong bond and a common vision, despite varied business interests. The free zone has been focused on keeping pace with the changing business environment by establishing the most sophisticated infrastructure facilities which are also ISO certified,” added Nagar.
Cellucom, although a relatively new entrant, is one of the fastest growing retail chains in its segment in the Middle East with its strategy of continuously expanding its operations within the regions. The company has a significant presence in the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Cellucom has adopted a multi-dimensional approach to achieve its expansion plans. “While on one hand we focused on long-term business, expanded our retail footprint, enhanced our distribution network, provided added value-added services and kept our focus on re-exports, on the other hand we focused on product expansion. Very recently the company realigned its brand slogan to its corporate vision and added the words ‘Enabling Mobility’ to the logo. “With the convergence of media, technology and telecom more and more products are falling under the category of mobility and we believe that there is more and more need for specialty stores like us. Today the products are capable of doing more than the basic function and they talk to one another by various means. We at Cellucom enable the customer to experience this convergence by creating the live demonstration of products at our stores,” said Nagar.
“Cellucom works very closely with the principals, service providers and consumers. By virtue of being present in the entire value chain, it provides maximum value to consumers and maximum value and direct customer feedback to principals.” Cellucom represents the following brands: Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Motorolla, HP, Acer, IBM, Toshiba, LExar, Creative, Linksys, 3Com, Jabra and Twinmoss, among others. Cellucom is constructing a regional headquarters in the free zone.
