Dnata Cargo has had another good year
Dnata Cargo, which operates Dubai’s air cargo terminals, has reported a 10 per cent increase in throughput during the financial year from April 2005 to the end of March 2006.
The combined cargo handled by Dnata Cargo’s four terminals was a record 566,915 tonnes during the year. Its terminals are the Main Cargo Terminal (MCT) at Dubai Cargo Village; Express Handling Centre (EHC); the Freezone Logistics Centre (FLC) at the Dubai Airport Free Zone (Dafz) and the Freezone Air Cargo Terminal (Fact) at the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafz).
Among a very few facilities of its kind in the world, the EHC is dedicated to express and courier shipments. It was designed to handle 3.1 million shipments annually.
MCT handled the highest volume during 2005-2006, 399,622 tonnes, followed by FLC 104,162 tonnes, EHC 56,114 tonnes and Fact 7,017 tonnes. The four terminals’ combined exports accounted for 218,868 tonnes; imports 265,860 tonnes, and transit cargo 82,187 tonnes.
“The continued success of Dnata Cargo is intrinsically linked to the growth of Dubai,” said,” said Jean Pierre L de Pauw, senior vice president, Dnata Cargo.
“These figures represent another record year and are welcome indicators for foreign airlines who see Dnata Cargo as the region’s leading cargo handler and Dubai as its premier commercial centre.”
Dnata cargo serves the needs of 100 airlines and deals with 1,000 cargo agents.
