Bin Lahej: strong public-private sector relationship

Jadaf Dubai has been named the number one shiplifting docking yard in the world by Rolls Royce Naval Marine Company for completing over 59,100 operations on all types of vessels, says a senior official of the UAE yard.

Hamed Bin Lahej, the general manager of Jadaf Dubai, said in a statement that the recognition underlined Jadaf Dubai’s commitment to provide the highest-quality of shiplifting operations to regional and international clients. He said the honour was conveyed to Al Jadaf through a letter from Rolls Royce. The official, who did not quote from the letter, added that it also commended Jadaf on its excellent overall performance during 2004.
Bin Lahej commented: “Al Jadaf is honoured to be the number one shiplifting dock in the world. Today, Jadaf offers a range of unparalleled competitive advantages to its regional and international clients and we are proud of this great achievement. I would like to congratulate Al Jadaf staff for their efforts in making 2004 a record year for us. I also thank the Dubai Government for their continuous support to Al Jadaf over the years.”
In 2004, Jadaf Dubai completed 2,181 operations, against the average of 300 operations at European docks. Jadaf Dubai recorded a 17 per cent increase in its operations in the first three months of 2005, compared with the corresponding period last year.
Rolls-Royce offers a product portfolio ranging from vessel design and gas turbine engines to water jets and deck-handling equipment. The business is unique in its scope and capabilities, with the aim of supplying power, propulsion and motion control systems for high-value vessels. Jadaf Dubai uses shiplift and associated transfer systems of Syncrolift Inc, a subsidiary of Rolls Royce Marine Company.
Syncrolift Inc is the global market leader with a market share of over 95 per cent in the design and supply of shiplift and associated transfer systems. The company’s product range includes shiplifts, bargelifts, transfer systems, ferry ramps, caissons and control systems. Jadaf Dubai has been utilising the Syncrolift technology for 26 years in its 28-year history.
“Al Jadaf is a manifestation of collective determination and represents and symbolises a strong public-private sector partnership. We will continue our commendable performance in the years to come and scale new heights in shiplifting and maintenance operations,” said Bin Lahej.
Jadaf Dubai, among the oldest ship repair yards in the Arabian Gulf area, offers facilities to handle all types of seafaring vessels weighing up to 2,550 dwt. Vessels come from different countries, including South Asia and Africa, due to its longstanding reputation as a good facility for shiplifting and maintenance.  “Being one of the oldest yards, Jadaf Dubai has a long tradition of quality workmanship at competitive prices. It is estimated that nearly 70 per cent of the small and medium-sized vessels passing through the region dock at Al Jadaf for maintenance and repair,” a company spokesman said.
