The Arab Company for Cable Polymers (Plascom) has ambitious plans for the future. "The company is diversifying its product range and increasing product types for additional marketing flexibility," says general manager Musa Abu Hazim.
"Currently we are producing polyethylene based (XLPE) and other compounds for wire and cable applications,'' says Hazim. ''The company is planning to produce high and medium density XLPE compounds for the production of thermal pipes which are used in under floor heating and sanitary system applications, strippable and bonded types of semiconducting compounds as well as low smoke halogen free (LSHF) compounds."
The Riyadh-based firm successfully launched "XLPE repair tape" in the beginning of this year.
Plascom, which went on stream in 1998, is claimed to be first of its kind in the Middle East, employing state-of-the-art technology to manufacture high quality compounds, meeting the needs of wire and cable manufacturers for the insulation and jacketing of low, medium and high voltage power cable as well as telecommunication wires.
Plascom's custom-designed laboratory is equipped with modern analytical and testing devices for quality control of its process and products.
To ensure very clean material, special contamination testing detectors are used. An online pallet inspection with automatic rejection and an offline pallet inspection with automatic tape inspection are also carried out at the factory.
The research, development and technical centre works continuously and closely with customers to develop new products and further enhance the performance and quality of Plascom's products to maximise efficiency, productivity and profitability of its customers, according to Hazim.
The company's current products and their applications include:
