National Pigment Masterbatch Company (Mulawinat) based in Riyadh is undergoing an expansion programme to increase its production capacity.

Mulawinat is at present fully utilising its production capacity of 7,500 tonnes per year (tpy). Therefore, new expansion work has already started to increase the production capacity to 12,000 tpy, says BPC manager Nahidh Safadi.

The expansion work was started in April 2000 and will be ready before the end of this year.

Mulawinat is a part of the Specialty Chemicals of Switzerland.

It manufactures Ciba-brand masterbatch colour pigments and additives, which are used by the plastic industry.

The company's product range comprises:

  • Standard colour masterbatch for extrusion, injection, blow-moulding and thermoforming;

  • Customs colour masterbatch for LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP, HIPS and SAN; and

  • Standard effect masterbatch for UV stabiliser, processing aid, antistatic, antioxidant, antiblock, antislip etc.

    One of the new projects the company is now developing is a masterbatch for fibre applications.

    "With the full technical support of Ciba Specialty Chemicals, our laboratory staff are working at bringing the latest technology of fibre masterbatch to the Kingdom and Middle East," says Safadi.

    The company is strongly committed to quality control and quality assurance and complies with ISO 9000 standards. It is ISO 9001 certified and looking forward to ISO 14000 certification, he says.

    "Apart from excellence in manufacturing, Mulawinat stresses on customer service and satisfaction irrespective of their size and level of purchase. This has endeared the company to many of the growing list of customers that Mulawinat has already created,'' he says.

    The company has also developed new markets in Libya, Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Japan, besides the Kingdom and other GCC countries.
