The Adnoc Technical Institute’s mission is to contribute to meeting the needs of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and its group companies for national skilled manpower.

It produces entry level technicians in the oil and gas industry and contributes to the community by providing an alternative to conventional academic education for young UAE nationals.
Establishment and Role
The Adnoc Technical Institute was established in 1978 to offer training programmemes that meet the needs of Adnoc and its group companies for skilled national manpower and to identify young UAE nationals with a potential for upward mobility.
The enforcement of the role of ATI can be seen in the policies, philosophies and programmes highlighted in the Adnoc brochure.
ATI is now serving the following Adnoc group companies:
• Takreer (Refining)
• Atheer (Gas processing)
• Adgas (Natural gas liquefaction)
• Gasco (Gas processing – natural gas liquids)
• Adco (Onshore oil production)
• Adma Opco (Offshore oil production)
• Zadco (Offshore oil production)
• Fertil (Fertilisers)
• Borouge (Polymers)

Since the establishment of ATI, trainees have graduated in different disciplines. Through continuous co-ordination and co-operation with Adnoc and its group companies, ATI has developed and enhanced the level of its training by making greater use of Adnoc group companies resources.
Adnoc group companies assist by providing job instructional training opportunities for trainees in relevant areas within each company’s operational sites.
These sessions provide the trainees with invaluable experience in the field and environment in which they will eventually work.
ATI Training Programmes
Adnoc Technical Institute offers the following two programmemes:
• The preparatory programme
• The technical programme
It takes each trainee up to three and a half years to graduate from ATI: one and a half years in the preparatory programme and two years in the technical programme.
At the end of the training period, a diploma (equivalent to the Ministry of Education Technical Secondary Certificate) is awarded to the successful trainee in the field of his specialisation.
 Graduates are then assigned to appropriate posts onshore or offshore within Adnoc or any of its group companies.
Preparatory Programme
A preparatory section designs and implements the Preparatory Programme. This section was initiated in September 1981 to attract UAE nationals who have successfully completed the preparatory stage of school education.
This programme lasts between six to 18 months, depending on the entry level of the trainee.
For the effective delivery of instruction, multi-national, well qualified and highly experienced instructors are employed. The objective of the preparatory section is to upgrade the proficiency level of the trainees’ English and to enhance their Mathematics skills to enable them to cope with the technical section curriculum where all instruction is conducted in English.
Technical Programme
The technical programme was launched in 1978 with the objective to train 64 young UAE nationals to operate the National Chlorine Industry’s plant. The programme was a proven success so the decision was taken to expand it to provide training in the main technologies needed in the petroleum related industries in the UAE.
The largest number of UAE nationals are trained in process plant operations as they will be the people who will run the plants in the future.
