Gulf Plastic Industries (Gulf Plas) has commissioned a new polypropylene random (PP-R) pipes extrusion line and another line to manufacture various sizes of medium-density and high-density polyethylene pipes.
The company has also enlarged its product portfolio with the addition of ASTM pressure fittings. It offers fittings of half-inch, three quarters of an inch and 1 inch in CPVC and PVC versions and says it will expand the choice of sizes depending on market demand.
Gulf Plas was one of the first manufacturers in Bahrain of thermoplastic pipes and fittings. The company makes u-PVC, CPVC, PP-R, LDPE and HDPE pipes to internationally recognised standards including BS, ASTM, DIN, NEMA, AS and ISO. The products are tested locally as well as in the UK, the US and Kuwait, according to a company spokesman.
It was awarded the ISO 9002:1994 certificate in 2000 which was upgraded to ISO 9001:2000 in October 2006.
Established in 1968, it is now located at the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP). Around 70 per cent of its output is exported. Gulf Plas has a strong presence in Saudi Arabia through its associate company Plastic Product Establishment, based in Al Khobar.
Bahrain projects it is now working on are the Isa Tower Flyover, the Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Recreational Park in Hid, the Bukhowa Infrastructure and Riffa Views. Recently completed were the Sitra Bridge, Lulu Island, Riffa Views and the refurbishing of Regency Intercontinental.
Over the years, the company was involved with Bahrain projects including the Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Hidd, BIPP, Durrat Al-Bahrain, Amwaj Island, Bahrain Financial Harbour, City Garden, Bahrain World Trade Centre and Al Areen Park.
