New pipe plant coming up

Bahrain Pipes Company (BPC) will open in the new year a newplant to make corrugated high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes which it sayswill revolutionise the drainage and sewerage system in Bahrain.

"Our new plant for producing corrugated HDPE pipes will becommissioned this year, heralding a new era in the sewerage and drainage fieldin Bahrain," Abdulrahman Kakkat, sales manager, said of the project which is ajoint venture with a German company.

"It will definitely be a better alternative to traditionalmaterials like GRP and clay pipes." 

Bahrain Pipes is a leading manufacturer and supplier ofunplasticised polyvinylchloride (uPVC) and chlorinated PVC (cPVC) pipes andfittings, polyethylene pipes of low and high density and polybutylene pipes. Part of Bahrain's Haji Hassan Group, the company was founded in 1996 and nowhas 16 divisions.

The company plans to produce HDPE pipes of diameters up to1,200 mm to meet demand from clients.

The company is certified by the UK's Water RegulationsAdvisory Scheme as a manufacturer of HDPE pipes for drinking waterapplications.

The company's pipes are being used in prestigious projectsin Bahrain such as Bahrain Bay, Lulu Island, Bahrain Financial Harbour and Durrat Al Bahrain.  It is supplying toongoing projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, Kakkat said. 

Fittings range increased
The official said BPC had also widely increased its range offittings in 2009 with a new plant dedicated to the production of fittings setto become operational in the beginning of this year.

"Our injection moulding unit has the capacity to produce PVCand CPVC fittings of up to 315 mm, in accordance with American and Europeanstandards for pressure as well as non-pressure (drainage) applications."

Being an ISO 9001:2000 certified company BPC conforms to theinternational standards of ASTM, BSEN, DIN and AS/NZS in the manufacturing ofits products.

"Our pipes are approved by various ministries of Bahrain andother GCC countries and by Saudi Arabia's highest approval authority, Saso.Besides, our cPVC pipes and fittings are NSF-approved," Kakkat said.
