Turk Mechanical Industries Co (TMI), which highlights thatit relies on constant innovation to stay ahead, has been providing professionalservices in fields such as ferrous and non-ferrous casting, in-house andon-site fabrication, waterjet cutting, CNC machining and milling, and anannealing furnace for metal hardening.

TMI is one of the few companies in Bahrain providing theseservices, with some of the products it manufactures like gears, tapping tubesand all tools for aluminium smelter plants finding their way into exportmarkets across the GCC and internationally, according to the company's managerJegan Mohan.

The company has the latest plasma cutting machines, sheetbending machines, shearing machines, CNC lathes and CNC milling machinesbesides the waterjet cutting CNC machine.

'The waterjet cutting CNC machine involves high- precisiontechnology that needs expert handling, said Jegan, adding, 'the customer' sdesign requirements are fulfilled in a software-integrated operation. Thecustomer's autocad drawing is simply fed into the waterjet CNC machine to getcutouts of almost any complexity.' TMI has now added a second waterjet CNC cutting machine to speed upservices.

'The company also has one of the most advanced technologiesfor metal hardening in anealing furnace, besides an environment-friendly sandblasting facility,' said Jegan.

'TMI is a leader in ferrous and non-ferrous casting whichincludes casting of stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, copper and brass. The company can cast any pattern as per sample or drawing provided by thecustomer. Its casting facility includes a 500 kg induction furnace with astate-of-the-art sand reclamation plant which helps to meet the industries evergrowing demand.'

Having served aluminium smelter companies the world over andin Bahrain for many years, TMI is one of the very few companies in Bahrainwhich has the capacity to make 'potshells' for aluminium industries and hassuccessfully delivered potshells to Alba well before schedule. It alsospecialises in refurbishment of furnaces for aluminium smelters. 

It recently completed key projects for Alba, which includeLines 3, 4 and 5, Sohar Aluminium Company expansion, Oman; BechtelInternational Co, Emirates Aluminium, GIIC, Asry, Balexco and the BahrainiMinistry of Electricity, besides leading private sector firms. Additionally,TMI has also successfully completed a massive project in Iceland by supplyingmanufactured products to the Fjardaal Aluminium Smelter.

Its services also include, providing manpower and technicalsupport to handle unexpected breakdowns at major industries in Bahrain.

'Our growth strategy is based on serving all customers - bigand small - with the support of highly trained technical personnel andregularly updated technology and machinery,' said Khalid Turk, managingdirector, adding, 'our participation in global bids also immensely contributesto our development.' The company is listed with several major internationalorganisations for bidding on international projects.

'TMI has been meeting the demands of Bahrain's developingindustries on the strength of its manpower skills and state-of-the-artmachinery and technology,' said Waheed Akbar, executive director.

Semi-oriented jobs in casting and fabrication formed thelion's share of the company's turnover in 2009, the year that was ravaged by amarket slowdown and shortage of projects across the GCC, said Jegan, predictinga rise in demand in 2010.

The second-half 2009 sales figure stood at BD2.3 million($6.1 million) against BD1.9 million for the same period a year before.

Exports for the second half of 2009 dropped to BD864,915($2.2 million) from BD1.5 million for the same period in 2008. The exportmarkets include the GCC states and other regions.

Turk Mechanical Industries Co was established in 1985. It isa specialist in all types of ferrous and non-ferrous castings, heavy and lightfabrication, machining and engine re-building. TMI's shareholders are chairmanAli Jalil Turk and directors Khalid Turk and Waheed Akbar and shares among themare spread out in the ratio of 51 per cent, 18 per cent and 31 per centrespectively.
