Pur-fect Lok 34-947A adhesive for metal doors resists fire.

An adhesive known to resist fire on metal doors and provide high green strength and good adhesion to metal and certain other substrates has been put on the international market by New Jersey (US)-based National Starch and Chemical Company, a member of the ICI Group.

The Pur-Fect Lok 34-947A adhesive is designed for use by manufacturers who aim to meet UL-10C, the positive pressure, fire door test, according to the company. Additionally, it says the substance is suitable for manufacturing panels that meet the ASTM W-84 flame and smoke standard.

"Tests show that this polyurethane reactive hot melt adhesive provides high green strength and good adhesion to metal and certain other substrates. This adhesive may be applied at 250 degrees F with a roll coater, and experience shows it provides good roll-coater stability," National Starch and Chemical said. "The operating temperature makes for a safer assembly environment compared with conventional 350-degee hot melt adhesives. The cooler operating temperature also translates into reduced energy costs."

The company said the new adhesive was easy to detect where it had been applied thanks to its colour. The adhesive is available in drums and pails.
