An Omani company that manufactures and markets the Mauvilac paint brand throughout the Middle East has won distributorships for Ameron industrial coatings in the Sultanate and for Kapsi automotive refinishing products in the Gulf region.
Excel Coatings (Middle East) has a technology licensing agreement with Mauritius-based Mauvilac and has launched the brand throughout the Middle East from its new manufacturing facility in Muscat.
In the Indian Ocean region, the Mauvilac paint company is recognised as the leader in its chosen fields of paint production including decorative finishes, industrial finishes, automotive refinishing, wood coatings and furniture lacquers.
"This development will enable customers throughout the Gulf to exploit the brand's specific strengths in harsh environment coatings, water proofings and anti-insect coatings as well as their mainstream materials which include Mauvinyl emulsions, Mauvistu-ccos, Mauviprimers and the Mauviwood range," said Excel Coatings' new general manager Sean Reid.
"Excel Coatings is also in the process of developing a distribution network throughout North Africa and Asia for the Mauvilac range," added Reid who has senior management experience from the European paint market.
Mauvilac, established in Mauritius in 1964 as a pioneer paint manufacturer of the Indian Ocean, has expanded to become a player of international standing. It has been instrumental in setting up paint factories as investor and/or supplier of technology and knowhow in neighbouring countries such as the French department of Reunion, Seychelles, Madagascar and South Africa, besides Oman. The Mauvilac group operates a paint factory in New Jersey, US.
The state-of-the-art research laboratories of Mauvilac are developing products with the involvement of its American associate company Centron where high-tech products for the petroleum, industrial flooring and potable water pipe sectors are being developed and supplied to customers such as Boeing, Griffin Pipe, M & Mars, Septa, US Post Offices and US Steel.
Experienced production personnel from Mauvilac's Mauritius operation have transferred to Oman and the external and internal sales team has been assembled with an international blend of personnel with paint industry experience gained throughout Africa, the Pacific Rim, India, Europe and the Middle East.
Industry specialists from a variety of backgrounds provide field-based technical support throughout the region.
"Excel's factory is fitted out with the most recent developments in paint manufacturing and colour mixing technology as an intrinsic part of our strategy to be the Gulf's paint supplier of choice for customers demanding consistent product quality and fast reliable deliveries," Reid said. Eventual production capacity is envisaged as being as high as 10,000,000 litres.
"This modern, sophisticated high-speed production equipment means that the factories throughput can be dramatically increased with time as brand awareness develops across the region and new and repeat businesses develop," said Reid.
"As a new operation Excel has been delighted with the markets' reception of their products and the rate of volume sales growth is exceeding our initial expectations".
The customers reflect the brand's diversity and come from all sectors of industry and commerce and include the general public painting their own property.
The customer base will be further broadened following Excel's prestigious appointment as the distributor of Ameron Industrial Coatings for Oman and its introduction of Kapsi Automotive refinishing products across the Gulf.
Ameron is the largest supplier of industrial and marine coatings to the United States. Kapsi is one of the world's fastest growing suppliers of automotive refinish products.
Raw materials are all being sourced locally and Excel's management has developed an extensive training programme to develop the company's Omani factory-based personnel into the best-trained and most experienced staff possible. Other Gulf nationals have been appointed for field-based sales and technical operations across the region.
Reid comments "Our combination of strong local partners, a world class manufacturing unit, Mauvilac technology and our Kapsi and Ameron agencies will give us a leading role in future developments in coatings in the Gulf".
