Jotun Paints highlighted to visitors at a petroleum event its anti-corrosive coating solutions for offshore oil rigs, platforms and semi-submersibles.
The company participated at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (Adipec) 2008 under the umbrella of the Norwegian pavilion. It focused on the boom within the region’s coatings market which currently accounts for roughly 5 per cent of the global figure, according to a Jotun statement.
“The demand from the oil and gas industry has led to massive increases in the amount of paint consumption in the region, with Saudi Arabia expected to consume around 1.6 million tonnes per year by 2010, and the UAE witnessing double-digit growth in the past few years,” said Philippe Fouques, Jotun’s protective coatings manager for the Middle East.
Officials of the company met potential partners and explained how their products would result in increased efficiency and longevity at oil and gas installations.
”Jotun’s advanced formulations offer resistance to corrosion, fouling, chemical attack and severe abrasion - with its tough one-coat, non-skid products with high film thickness meeting the need for surfaces for helicopter decks, gangways, escape ways and sub-sea structures,” according to the company statement. It added that its powder coatings and cathodic protection also protected pipelines and submerged structures.
Jotun also educated trade visitors on how to minimise maintenance costs during the expected lifetime of the plant and prevent unplanned, costly shutdowns through the Jotun Asset Management Programme (Jamp).
Customers were given theoretical and practical training by staff of the Jotun Energy Paint School during the event.
Fouques said Jotun products were “a first line of defence” against harsh weather conditions, salt spray, chemical spills, ultra-violet exposure, deep-sea waters and perpetual battering from waves.
Jotun also presented its competence development training programme which aims to provide technical support services.
The programme functions under the name “Global Technical Team No. 1.” The team has more than 600 full-time, specially trained coating advisors who ensure that technical specifications, local legislation and standards specified by the authorities are followed and that all coating-related work is carried out as specified.
It recently launched ‘Global Technical Team No 1,’ an extensive competence development training programme designed to provide quality uniform technical support and service in every region.
Also highlighted was Jotun’s “Offshore Concept Team” which collects and analyses information related to the offshore industry.
