Power-Gen Middle East 2008, the premier conference and exhibition for the region’s power and water industries, has received strong support from Bahraini ministries and regional authorities.

Extending support are the Ministry of Electricity & Water, Ministry of Industry & Commerce, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Arab Union of Producers, Transporters and Distributors of Electricity (AUPTDE) and the Independent Power Producers Forum (IPPF).
Power-Gen Middle East will be held at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre from February 4-6 2008.
“The GCC Countries will require 100,000 MW of additional power over the next 10 years to meet demand.” according to the World Energy Council.
With demand growing at over 5 per cent per year, Bahrain has struggled to keep ahead and an additional 1,200MW is planned by 2010 at an estimated investment of $1 billion.
The country is the gateway to an energy hungry region that is also experiencing massive growth with a combined expected investment in excess of $50 billion.
As water becomes an increasingly precious resource on which the well-being of future generations depends, issues of water quality, quantity, management and planning are essential to the future of the region’s population.
Bahrain has seen an increase in water consumption of 25 million gallons per day over the last 5 years. Investment is required for existing water pipes and waste water systems and spending on waste water systems will double in the course of the next 10 years in Saudi Arabia alone.
It is estimated that $100 billion will be invested in the Middle East water and desalination projects over the next 10 years.
Power-Gen Middle East is expected to receive 3,000 industry professionals, who will gather for three days to attend the industry’s leading conference and experience the latest developments and ideas for the future of the Middle East power and water sectors.
