Aspiring to be the leader in the Middle East bedding industry, Intercoil International has set its course towards achieving that goal.
The company plans to double its production capacity from 700 to 1,500 units per day in a phased strategic expansion programme starting this month (August), says its managing director, Hassan Al Hazeem.
The real estate boom is expected to fuel the demand for mattresses as more hotels and residences are built in the UAE. To meet that demand, the company is currently upgrading its infrastructure to increase its manufacturing capacity and also has plans to establish new production units inside and outside the UAE.
Located in the Al Quoz industrial area, the Intercoil factory and corporate headquarters spans across 150,000 sq feet and is divided into three divisions: the polyurethane foam division, the mattress division and the furniture division. The company has with a team of 200 multinational employees. Components are manufactured in-house and quality is assured at every stage, starting with the selection of high-quality materials and actual production all the way to the packing of the product.
Founded in 1974, Intercoil International, then known as International Foam and Furnishing Company, was the pioneer in polyurethane foam manufacturing in the Middle East. Since then, the company has evolved to produce complete furnishing solutions, focusing in bedding and sleep systems. These include orthopaedic beds and mattresses and other bedding accessories.
Leading the development initiatives of Intercoil is Hassan Al Hazeem, the MD who inherited his business acumen from his late father Abbas Ali Al Hazeem. Intercoil International is a part of the family-owned Kuwaiti-based Abbas Ali Al Hazeem Group, which is into real estate, carpets, furniture and related industries founded by his late father in 1965.
Intercoil says it was the first in the bedding industry to implement a quality management system. It was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2001 in recognition of its good manufacturing practices. With continual improvement in mind, the company is now in its first stages of implementing the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18000 levels to further enhance the practice of environment-friendly manufacturing processes.
