Steady growth in business over the past couple of years has prompted Petron Emirates Contracting and Manufacturing Company, a Dubai-based fabrication and construction company, to expand geographically, as well add another fabrication unit and increase its workforce to cope with the workload.
Talking about some recently executed/ongoing projects, Petron managing director RS Ambekar says the company has signed a contract with France-based Solios Environnement to build gas treatment and fume treatment plants for the Sohar Aluminium Smelter in Oman.
Petron has been awarded a contract by Alstom Power Centrales, France, to execute a combined cycle captive power plant at Dubai Aluminium Company. The firm is also erecting heat recovery steam generators modules, including the fabrication of stacks, ducts and structures at Sharjah’s Layyah power station and desalination plant extension.
Ambekar says the firm will carry out several projects with Sharjah Cement Factory to build a 10,000-tonne cement storage silo, to construct a packing plant and bulk loading spout with bucket elevator, and to upgrade a kiln from 800 tonnes per day (tpd) to 2,000 tpd.
Petron is also setting up a grinding plant for the National Cement Factory, Mussaffah, Abu Dhabi, following a contract with Austria-based Cement & Mining Technology.
Ambekar says another major project was upgrading the Dubai-based National Cement Company plant, which involved fabricating and supplying a new pre-heater and shortening the kiln.
“All these works have been carried out in a long shutdown period of about five months,” he adds. “The work was carried out in a running plant with an emphasis on keeping the shutdown period as short as possible.”
Petron is exporting fabricated components, such as heaters, furnaces, coils, stacks, ducts, exhaust gas diffusers to various international clients for projects in Qatar, including the Ras Gas Project and Qatar Gas Project. It has also supplied fabricated components for various projects in the UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
