The very first Dubai Cut diamond is unveiled in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed

The Dubai Metal and Commodities Centre (DMCC) has unveiled the ‘Dubai Cut,’ a unique and exclusively patented cut of diamond produced by Kristall Corporation for DMCC.

The diamond, which has 99 facets symbolising the 99 holy names of Allah, was shown to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister. Each Dubai Cut diamond is laser-inscribed with a serial number, and Sheikh Mohammed was shown the stone bearing serial number 0001.
Kristall, the largest Russian-polished diamond manufacturer, will produce the beautiful piece exclusively for DMCC under a legal patent. The internationally renowned diamond organisation known for its high quality standards, will produce a limited number of around 1,800 stones annually. Each diamond will be laser-inscribed with a serial number and will be presented with a certificate of authenticity stating that the stone is mined, cut and polished in Russia and meets the highest quality standards. The basic characteristics of the stone (colour, clarity and weight) are also included.
“The 99-faceted Dubai Cut diamond was inspired by the 99 holy names of Allah, and will become a national jewel,” said Ahmed Bin Sulayam, chief operating officer of DMCC. “The “Dubai Cut” will be an internationally renowned brand synonymous with a flawless reputation, the highest quality and unique creativity in design” he continued.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Kristall and we have worked closely with them over the past years to establish trade relations and sharing of vital information with regards to the industry.  We are confident of their reputation in the global arena and we believe they are the ideal partners for this revolutionary project”.
In his comments, Maxim Shkadov, director general  of Kristall, said: “We are extremely delighted to join DMCC as an exclusive partner to create this piece of art.  Dubai has rapidly emerged as a global hub for the diamond industry with DMCC at its centre through industry dedication and the creation of innovative products and services.  The Dubai Cut will further enhance Dubai’s position in the global diamond world.
“Kristall is the leading Russian polished diamond manufacturer. It has always been in the vanguard of the industry and is today one of the major players in the international market. For over 40 years, the company has manufactured diamonds of superb quality, ideal proportions and magnificent brilliance while strictly adhering to the highest industry ethical standards, including a commitment and track record of leading the fight against blood diamonds, conflict diamonds, and child labour.”
Only member companies of DMCC will have the opportunity to qualify for a licence to trade the Dubai Cut diamond. DMCC will invite its members to submit their applications for consideration in mid-February. The criteria for qualification are very stringent and only a few will be shortlisted for licence consideration.
The creation of the innovative Dubai Cut diamond is an addition to the industry-specific portfolio successfully established by DMCC.  The Dubai Diamond Exchange along with the recently launched Dubai Gem Certification service is a demonstration of DMCC’s commitment to the diamonds and coloured stones industries, the spokesman said.
