

Siemens is to supply electrical equipment for a new cement factory in the UAE emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, the company reported.
Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) received an order from Thyssen Krupp Industries India Pvt Ltd to supply the material for Gulf Cement Company’s new plant. The order includes the complete turnkey power supply system as well as drive and automation systems. The value of the order is three million euros and the new factory is scheduled to start operating by April 2006.
Established in 1977, Gulf Cement Co. has been operating a production line in Ras Al Khaimah since 1981 with an annual capacity of 1.25 million tonnes of cement. At present, Thyssen Krupp Industries India and their German principal Polysius AG are building an additional line at the same location, designed to produce 2.4 million tonnes of clinker per year. The main aim is to serve the growing demand in the UAE and the neighboring states. On completion, the new plant will include the world’s largest vertical roller mill and five-stage preheater, a kiln, a cooler with intermediate hammer crusher and clinker storage.
Siemens is supplying the entire power supply system consisting of gas-insulated 33 kV switchgear, a 40 MVA transformer, 6.6 kV switching units, distribution transformers, an energy monitoring system, low voltage switchgear, low-voltage motors, variable-speed drives and an automation system.
It is also responsible for the engineering of the electrical systems including cabling, grounding, lighting, and harmonics analysis of the power supply system as well as for software development, supervision of the installation work and commissioning.
The project will be carried out by Siemens India.
