Bahrain-based North Star Communications has launched its new satellite communications services in the kingdom.

It is providing high-speed Internet and multimedia connectivity to clients through broadband services powered by its partner Streamlink Communications.
“Our managed Broadband service provides Internet access to media streaming, voice and video conferencing and can be tailored to individual needs, whether they are a corporate business, educational institution or government agency,” said North Star Communications manager Samuel Thomas.
“North Star’s services are accessed through a DVB/ RCS (Digital Video Broadband with Return Channel System) gateway service in the UAE, which provides high-speed Internet and multimedia connectivity to our clients.
“This gateway is the first in the Middle East to use open standard DVB-RCS technology,” said Thomas.
He said the company was using the latest technology from global leader New Skies. North Star also offers one-way Internet services, using the “DVB through Satellite” technology, said North Star Technologies vice president Nadia Abdulrahman.
“The applications of this technology include high speed Internet download, distance learning and training, and corporate video broadcasting,” she noted.
Other services offered by the company include DAMA ( Demand Assignment Multiple Access) and SCPC (Single Channel Per Carrier). The DAMA system is the most suitable for banking networks, oil field connectivity, air traffic control, global Foreign Affairs Ministries’ network and remote security surveillance, said Abdulrahman.
SCPC solutions are suitable for the internet service providers, universities, and video conferencing , she added.
