

With over a quarter of a century in its line of business, Metscco Steel Construction Company Ltd has won the respect of the metal industry for its professionally managed and specialised services.
The company has considerable expertise in the engineering, designing, fabrication and erection of welded storage tanks for fuel, water and chemicals; heavy structural steel installations and pressure vessels as well as the maintenance of refineries and power stations. One of its strong points is its capability in providing complex customised services.
Recently Metscco introduced a new product in thermal energy storage (insulated chilled water tanks).
Its floating roof storage tanks comprise fixed roof tanks with internal floating roof, double-deck external floating roof and pontoon-type external floating roof.
“Floating roof tanks provide the safest and most economically effective means of storing volatile petroleum and chemicals including petrochemicals,” a company spokesman explains.
“They greatly reduce hydrocarbon emissions and provide increased protection.”
The company’s cylindrical storage tanks constitute its “typical product” and account for a significant portion of the production.
The company’s maintenance services include dislodging, blasting and painting of storage tanks; replacing floating roofs including seals; replacing bottom and shell plates of tanks; and repairing and overhauling of heat exchangers.
“The manufacture of quality products and a commitment to customer service have gone a long way in Metscco’s climb to the position of market leader,” the spokesman says.
The Metscco facilities are situated in Riyadh on a total area of 16,000 sq m, of which more than half makes up the covered area. The company’s processes are aided by the presence of four overhead cranes, rolling machines, automatic welding and blasting machines, fabrication equipment and computerised designing facilities. Manning the equipment and facilities are engineers, fabricators and welders having long experience in their respective fields.
The client list is drawn from both the public domain and the private sector and comprises such parties as Saudi Electricity Company, Saudi Aramco, Sabic, Almarai, Reyrolle, Apina Spain, Hyundai Construction, TPL Italy, Elex AG Switzerland and Linde AG.
“Metscco was established in 1979 to provide the most comprehensive steel construction services and 25 years on we can say we have fulfilled that objective all along,” the spokesman says.
“The projects we have worked on are living proof of our capability.” The company’s solutions embrace all internationally accepted codes and standards.
For the mechanical design of tanks and pressure vessels, it conforms to the following standards: API 620, API 650, API 653, API 2000, UL 58, UL 142, AWWA D 100, BS 2654, BS 2594, NFPA 22, NFPA 30 and ASME SEC VIII BIV 1 & 2.
Computer programmes that Metscco uses include the “Tank” software by Coade Inc USA, “Staad Pro” by Research Engineers Inc USA; Autocad relating to 2000 and 2002, X-Steel by Tekla and ETANK 2000 by Eware Inc USA
