Al Futtaim Auto and Machinery Company (Famco) was recently awarded a contract and subsequently delivered six Volvo A35D articulated haulers and two Volvo wheel loaders to Al Fahd Crushers in Fujairah.

A1 Fahd Crushers, a relatively young player in the four-decade-old UAE aggregate market, is currently undergoing an expansion programme, initiated in 2003, to produce five million tonnes of aggregate per annum.
The company ordered the haulers and loaders for operations in quarries and off-highway operations. At these sites, it produces aggregates for asphalt and concrete from a substance called gabbro, the hardest rock in the region. The units were specially ordered because of the difficult rocky terrain and the high gradeability of the vehicles.

The Volvo A35D articulated hauler is powered by a new electronically controlled 12-litre diesel engine with 387 horsepower. It also features a 20 cu m hardened and tempered steel body with high-impact strength, and can reach a maximum speed of 56 km/h. The A35D incorporates a new hydraulic system for faster dumping and a newly developed load and dump brake, which helps to further reduce cycle times. The interior has a new ergonomically designed air-conditioned cab with an adjustable air suspension seat, improved climate control system and improved instrument panel, while the equipment functions by use of permanently lubricated bearings and oil bath pre-cleaner, ideal for the dusty conditions of the region.
