The Aggreko power unit on Panay Island

Aggreko plc, a global leader in providing multi-megawatt temporary power projects, has announced it commissioned a 10 MW/69kV baseload power plant located on Panay Island, the Philippines.

The package, installed at the Panitan substation in the Capiz Province of Panay Island, will assist in restoring reliable electricity supply to the island residents.
A team from Aggreko’s Middle East headquarters in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone handled the Panay contract.
Aggreko had signed a 12-month lease contract on February 13, 2004 with Philippine state-owned National Power Corporation (NPC) to supply a fully comprehensive power solution including generators, transformers, fuel tanks, and cabling. All equipment and ancillaries were mobilised, installed and commissioned less than 40 days after the contract signing, in line with the urgent requirements of NPC.
Steve Dunlop, sales director for Aggreko, said, “This contract is a significant achievement for Aggreko in Asia. This is the first time we have provided a 69 kV power package in the Philippines, and it demonstrates our expertise in supplying power solutions designed specifically to customer requirements. Once again, our ability to rapidly mobilise and install multi-megawatt packages anywhere around the globe has played an important part in contract negotiations”.
Electricity demand in the Philippines has grown steadily in recent years and is expected to continue growing throughout the decade. Due to the geography of the Philippines, however, linking the country’s three main islands (Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) into a single national grid has not yet been achieved.
Since Panay is located at the tail end of the Cebu-Negros-Panay Island sub-grid, it has become most vulnerable to power shortfalls in the Visayas region.
The deployment of the generator set in Panay is expected to improve the reliability of the island’s power supply and to ease the occurrence of power interruptions in the Visayas region.
Aggreko’s power generation services include generators, loadbanks, transformers and ancillary products offering power from 15 kVA in a single unit to the design, installation and operation of complete multi-megawatt power packages.  Aggreko temperature control services include fluid chillers, heavy-duty air conditioners, heat exchangers and ancillary products for a wide range of industrial and commercial cooling applications.
Aggreko provides 24-hour availability and service support through a network of over 120 locations in 28 countries.
Recently Aggreko announced it had completed the largest load test project in the Middle East.
The company supplied National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) with two load bank packages totalling 35 MVA in Abu Dhabi and Iran during the final commissioning stages of the Shell Nowrooz and Soroosh permanent production platforms.
The package, which consisted of a 25 MVA load bank and transformer, was delivered to the NPCC fabrication yard in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi, and an additional 10 MVA load bank and transformer was supplied to NPCC fabrication yard Qeshm Island.
NPCC tested performance, synchronisation and load sharing of the gas turbines installed on board the Soroosh Production Platform-1 Topside (SPP1-1 Deck) and the Nowrooz Production Platform (NPP2).  The load bank package for the SPP1-1 Deck, was delivered, installed and commissioned within two days of signing the contract.
As well as providing 24-hour day availability, the Aggreko loadbank equipment is specifically designed to be mobilised and installed in a very short time span.
