At Emirates Transformer and Switchgear Ltd (ETS), pioneering has always been attributed to the vision of top management.
In 1987 it was the first to bring manufacturing of transformers to the UAE; in 1995 it was the first transformer manufacturer in the GCC region to receive certification under ISO 9001:1994; in 2002, it was the first to receive the ISO 9001:2000 certification in the Middle East and, in 2003, it was the first to offer Impulse Voltage Withstand testing as a commercial facility for use by all in the electrical industry in this region.
“With such an impeccable track record, we all can rest assured there will be many more firsts in the glamorous future of this company,” said operations manager Ajoy Patel.
“With the commissioning of a new and modern testing facility at our factory in Jebel Ali, we are witnessing the dawn of a new era - an era where we have chosen to invest in providing testing as a commercial service to our customers rather than only use it as an in-house validation of the quality of our products.
“Armed with the ability to conduct tests which include Impulse Voltage, Partial Discharge, Capacitance & Tan Delta, Sound Level Measurements and Temperature Rise Measurements and catering to an array of products such as transformers, switchgear, motors, cables, oil samples and instrument transformers, we are proud to announce the launch of this new service at ETS.
“Not only does this bring diversity to our basket of services, but it also brings quality to our products!”
Aside from widening its horizons by entering the repairs and services segment, ETS has also brought focus to the manufacturing of transformers, which is its core product. The vision of P D Patel, the managing director, is finally seeing reality with a focused entry of this company’s marketing efforts in the area of power transformers of higher voltage ratings.
In the very recent past, the company has executed many prestigious orders for transformers of ratings above 10MVA, up to 33kV class - for example, the supply of 10 MVA and 16MVA power transformers to Oman, and 12.5MVA power transformers to Saudi Arabia.
“Furthermore, with the recent successful supply of 10MVA transformers to a private electricity utility in the Netherlands, ETS has added another notch to its production bedpost,” commented Ajoy Patel.
“In fact, this supply to the Netherlands, has been a historical breakthrough for not only does it mark the first non-European vendor in the books of the clients, but it is also a validation of the fact that our products meet the stringent technical and quality requirements of European standards.
“As a measure of this customer’s satisfaction, we now have an order for a 23MVA regulating transformer which will be executed towards the third quarter of this year.”
Emirates Transformer and Switchgear Ltd is the pioneer manufacturer of distribution and power transformers in the UAE. Established in 1987, under a technical collaboration with IEO Transformatoren, BV, The Netherlands, ETS has seen many milestones in its history that have now brought them to the higher echelons of what may be considered to be the elite amongst the global players in the industry.
IEO, its collaborator, has been manufacturing and selling transformers in the European market for over 55 years and with such history and experience, the combination is a guaranteed formula for success, says Ajoy Patel.
Says Ajoy Patel: “The future of ETS lies in its ability to expand and diversify. There are many coals in the fire already and we are confident that the seeds sown today will reap much profit in the future.”
